Re: FAU Softball's Stephanie Call & Lindsey Shell Earn 2nd Team All Sun Belt
Florida Atlantic University senior Stephanie Call and sophomore Lindsey Shell were named All-Sun Belt Second Team, the league announced on Tuesday.
The announcement was made in advance of the Sun Belt Conference softball tournament, which begins Wednesday in Troy, Ala. Call, who made the team as a utility player, finished the regular season second on the team with a .308 batting average and led the team in homeruns (seven), RBI (30), slugging percentage (.550) and on-base percentage (.428). She also tied for the team lead in hits (40) and doubles (seven). As a pitcher, she picked up nine wins in the circle, including a one-hitter on the final day of the regular-season that helped the Owls clinch the SBC tournament’s fifth seed.
Shell emerged as an offensive threat in her sophomore campaign, hitting .294 this season, including a team best .382 in Sun Belt play. She scored 16 runs, including the game winner in FAU’s 2013 victory over North Texas, who the Owls will face in their opening game of the conference championship.. The Palm Beach Gardens native also stole eight bases and committed just one error in the field.
