FAU offers Chaffey College OL Kaige Lawrence
FAU continues to recruit JUCO offensive linemen
For the past two recruiting cycles, Florida Atlantic has managed to sign a junior college offensive lineman in each class. Head coach Carl Pelini has made it a priority to search for experienced blockers, and that trend appears to be continuing.
The Owls have offered Chaffey College (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) offensive tackle Kaige Lawrence in an attempt to add a junior college lineman to their 2014 recruiting class.
"According to my offensive line coach, they have offered," Lawrence said in a message.
At 6'4" 290-pounds, Lawrence has the ability to play multiple positions along the line, which has led to attention from coaches around the county. Arizona offered the lineman earlier this spring and other programs such as Illinois, California, and Cincinnati have all expressed interest.
Lawrence is a native of Silverado High School (Victorville, CA) who went the junior college route after playing one year at Chardon State –– a Division II school in Nebraska.
Braden Lyons, an offensive lineman that signed with FAU last December, took a similar path to Lawrence, playing one season at Division II Humbodlt State before transferring to a junior college in California and then eventually signing with the Owls.
Pelini has ties to Chaffey College, having signed two players from the school when he was the defensive coordinator at Nebraska. Pelini was the primary recruiter for safety Daimion Stafford, who was recently selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the NFL draft.
Lawrence is set to graduate in December and enroll at the college of his choice with two years of eligibility remaining.
