Florida Atlantic University senior tight end Nexon Dorvilus has earned a spot on Athlon Sports magazine’s preseason Conference USA second team.

Dorvilus was named to the 2013 CollegeFootballPerformance.comwatch list last week. He saw action in every game as a junior and finished his campaign with 30 receptions for 301 yards in 2012. Dorvilus was one of seven receivers to record a touchdown reception and led all with five scores. He had a season high six receptions and 78 yards versus Troy University. At season’s end he earned second team All-Sun Belt honors, the former conference FAU competed in, and also was named the team’s Student-Athlete of the Year.

The senior will be asked to provide leadership as the Owls make the transition into Conference USA in 2013 and play their second season under the direction of FAU Head Football Coach Carl Pelini.

Re: FAU's Dorvilus Earns Spot on 2013 Athlon Sports Preseason All CUSA 2nd Team

Who votes or picks this team? Is it a group of writer's from each school or is it one persons opinion? Seems like not much research was done on FAU players….Congrats to Dorvilus!!!!

Three areas of input:

1. School's submit players for consideration
2. A group of writers are polled for feedback
3. The publisher polls staff for feedback

In the end, Athlon makes the call, as it is their recognition to hand out.

Has everyone noticed how little (actually ZERO) repsect the owls are getting from ANY of the pre-season mags still.

Thank God we are not in the old stong(er) CUSA with UCF, Houston, SMU and Memphis eh? We would REALLY SUCK then huh?

They are giving no credit to a more mobile qb in this O system because they came from JUCOS even though both were JUCO All-American or  JUCO national leaders yet they WILL put a freshman recruit on an all conference team due to his "potential" or "proven" ability - what a crock!.

Our Owls will just have to prove themselves on the field to get that respect, which is just fine with me anyhow. Surprise 'em and SHOCK 'EM Owls!

Really, it isn't that surprising. The experts use stats to make predictions and our stats are not very good. We need to prove our selves to get respect.

I don't care about preseason recognition…perform on the field…perform as a team….much more exciting to be recognized as a team at the end of the season.

@Tim….exactly. Who cares about some guy's opinion that gets paid by a magazine.  He probably spends 95% of the time studying the top 20 teams and everyone else gets the rest. Walk on the field and perform and no one can question you.

I understand your point about the "freshman recruit on an all conference team due to his "potential" or "proven" ability" and your frustration in general but these things are year=to-year and we haven't done anything in the last few years to deserve a ranking higher than, say, 100th team in the nation (sad to say).

As you know, our last bowl win was 2008… which will be 5 years ago this season. Since then we went 5-7, 4-8, 1-11, 3-9. We rebounded well in the last few games and showed flashes of potential, yes, but a large part of that late success was Graham Wilbert who is now gone.

So a sub-0.500 team for the last four years playing in an entirely new conference with an unproven QB and both an offense and a defense that didn't put up admirable numbers last year… and no 4-5 star recruits to get the preseason guys excited about us.

It all means that yeah, we're in the bottom 10% of teams right now. At best we're a wild card.

We're hoping for a 6-6 season. Preseason projections think more like 4-8. Who's going to be right? We'll find out soon enough.

That said, I think even in 2008 when we basically had our 2007 bowl team back again, we still were ranked, what, 70's? Did we ever get up in the 50's, even? So even with our best team to date we still weren't up that high.
