Mainland wide receiver David White played just one year of high school football, but his potential has given him a chance at FAU. White will join the team this weekend as preferred walk-on and participate in fall camp.
White is a raw pass catcher, who caught the eye of Owl's recruiting coordinator Jeff Sims back in April. While a lot of schools had overlooked White, Sims was the first to contact White after the prospect received word that he had passed his ACT.
"I sat down with him in the office and we talked about me attending FAU. He sold me on the idea when I saw that he was going to take a chance on me," White said. "Not a lot of coaches would put there self out like that and I really respect him for that."
The six-foot 180-pound White held offers from Bethune-Cookman and a handful of Division II programs, but he chose to work for scholarship at FAU. Sims told White that if things go as planned, the receiver could be placed on scholarship as early as next year.
White racked up over 700 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in his one season at Mainland. His highlights can be viewed here.
