Despite a scoreless first half, the Owls managed just three shots in a 4-1 exhibition loss to FGCU on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles had 21 overall shots, and took control in the second half behind an aggressive offensive display.

Despite out shooting the Great Danes 15-7 overall, the Owls fell 2-0 on Friday night in their 2013 opener at FAU Soccer Stadium.

However, Albany (1-0) did enjoy a 5-4 advantage in those on target.

Claire Emslie registered four attempts for the match.

Florida Atlantic (0-1) returns to the home pitch on Sunday at 1:00 PM when they will play host to Arizona.

A late second half goal lifted Arizona (2-0) past Florida Atlantic 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The teams battled for 79 scoreless minutes until Jazmin Ponce stuck the back of the net for the Wildcats, who narrowly slipped past FAU in shots on goal at 3-2 for the contest.

Marisa Russo and Taylor Sorrels had the targeted attempts for the Owls (0-2).

FAU will next travel to Fort Myers for a pair of contests, beginning with Davidson on Friday, August 30th at 4:00 PM.

Taylor Sorrels scored her third career goal, and tallied half of the Owls attempts on target, in a 3-1 loss to Mississippi State (2-1) On Friday afternoon.

Trailing 2-0, Sorrels cashed in for FAU in the 44th minute off a corner-kick from Kelsey Parry.

MSU connected for the final score in the 55th minute.

The Owls (0-3) will enjoy Saturday off before taking on Davidson on Sunday at 10:30 AM.

The FAU women's soccer team drew against Davidson (0-3-1) on Sunday at the Embassy Suites Classic in Fort Myers, marking their first tie of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Zwetsch made five saves on the day for the Owls (0-3-1), including one in the 89th minute and second overtime en route to her first shutout of the season.

Florida Atlantic outshot the Wildcats 17 to 14 in the 110-minute contest, with Claire Emslie posting five of those.

The team will have a full week off before hosting Miami next Sunday at 1:00 PM in Boca Raton.

Two weather stoppages, an own goal and a last-minute game-winning goal highlighted Florida Atlantic University women's soccer match against Miami on Sunday. After three and a half hours of play, the Hurricanes (5-0) came away with a 2-1 victory over the home Owls (0-4-1).

After a scoreless first half that saw a 43-minute lightning delay, Miami struck in the 49th minute. Following a deflected corner kick, Gracie Lachowecki found Erin McGovern who put the ball in the top right corner of the net to put the Hurricanes up 1-0.

The Owls got on the board in the 79th minute when a Dani Dangremond cross was deflected by a Miami defender into the Hurricane net. The own goal tied the game at 1-1.

Each team mustered two shots until the final minute when Miami's Ashley Flinn broke free down the middle of the field to score the game winner with just 40 seconds remaining. Flinn completed a hat trick Friday night as Miami beat Cleveland State 6-1.

Senior goalkeeper Courtney Zwetsch made eight saves on the day, including six in the second half. Miami outshot the Owls 20-13 and took 11 corner kicks.

FAU returns to the road next weekend when it faces Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Columbia in Jacksonville, Fla.

Two late scores in the 75th and 81st minutes propelled FAU past Columbia on Friday. The win was the first for the Owls (1-4-1) on the 2013 season, while the Lions dropped to 2-2.

The first score was an own goal, and the second came off a free kick by Rebecca Zoltie that found the net from 30 yards out.

Florida Atlantic goalkeeper Courtney Zwetsch made four saves in the affair.

Sunday's match will have a time change to 11:00 AM as the team takes on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in hopes of earning their second straight victory.

Florida Atlantic women's soccer (1-5-1) fell to USC 2-0 on the road on Thursday night. The Trojans netted both of their efforts in the first half of play.

The Owls managed just five shots for the match to that of 14 for USC (5-2-1), and goalie Courtney Zwetsch had seven saves.

FAU will next return to Boca Raton for a match against Memphis on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
