Heading into week two of action, the Owls will kick off conference play against East Carolina on Thursday at 7:30 EST.

Friday night will see Florida International take on Central Florida, while the Panthers are hopeful to make it two straight against the Knights in Miami.

Saturday's action features matchups against three ranked opponents. UTSA plays its first home game as a member of C-USA against No. 13 Oklahoma State, with the Cowboys becoming the first ranked team to face the Roadrunners at the Alamodome. Southern Miss visits No. 18 Nebraska for the second straight season and UAB plays at No. 12 LSU, where the Blazers won in their last visit to Tiger Stadium in 2000.

The Sean Kugler era will get underway in El Paso, as UTEP becomes the final C-USA team to open its season, hosting regional rival New Mexico.

Middle Tennessee will make the short trip to Chapel Hill to face North Carolina, trying to open 2-0 and Louisiana Tech and Tulsa will each play their home openers, hosting Lamar and Colorado State, respectively.

FINAL:

UCF 38  FIU 0

The Owls lost 31-13 to ECU on Thursday, but will likely feel much better about the chances of the Shula Trophy (or whatever it might be called by then) returning to the Oxley Center in Boca Raton after seeing Central Florida blank the Panthers on Friday night in Miami.

FIU didn't do too bad in the passing department, displaying a 68% showing in accuracy (19-of-28) for 143 yards.

But the run game (29 yards total) was no where to be found for the host team, while sporting a net average of just one yard per carry.

I tell ya, if we had Jake Medlock playing for us, we'd be 7-5 this year. Feel bad for the kid, he's one of like 3 returning starters, he's held together with bailing wire and it'll be a long year for him.

I guess if we get frustrated with our "rebuilding" we can look down south, they're in a state.

I think they have Bethune Cookman next week, if they lose there, I don't think they win a game this season.

FINALS:

OSU 56  UTSA 35

The Road Runners make it respectable with 28 fourth quarter points.

MTSU 20  UNC 40

A scoreless first half by the Blue Raiders is too much to overcome against the Tar Heels. Four turnovers didn't help either.

FINAL:

South Alabama 41  Tulane 39

The Green Wave broke for some nice offense, but the Jaguars had the hatches battened down thanks to QB Ross Methany, who ran for two TD's and threw for another pair. All in all, he accounted for 365 of USA's 465 total yards on the afternoon.

FINALS:

Southern Miss 13  Nebraska 56

The Huskers pound out 285 yards by foot on the day for a pair of TD's, but also get two first quarter scores from the defense via interceptions. This one was never close, as NU led 35-6 at the break.

On a more serious note, the Golden Eagles have now lost 14 in a row - good enough for the longest streak in the FBS. That will enable them to remain at the top spot in The Bottom 10.

Gardner-Webb 0  Marshall 55

FINALS:

Lamar 14  Louisiana Tech 27

The Cardinals posted a 75-0 win over DII Oklahoma Panhandle last weekend, and LTU should feel lucky they got out of this one. Losing to an FCS opponent at home would not have been a good thing.

North Texas 21  Ohio 27

After trailing 21-7 at intermission, the Mean Green rally to pull even early in the fourth quarter. But it's not enough as the Bobcats tack on a pair of FG's thereafter for the final difference.

Colorado State 27  Tulsa 30

The Golden Hurricane overcome a 27-17 deficit with 13 points in the final period. QB Cody Green tossed three TD's in his 212 yard effort, and the kicking game was spot on at 3-for-3.
