FAU DB D'Joun Smith Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

Post

Florida Atlantic sophomore CB D'Joun Smith, who scored a touchdown on an interception (photo) and set up another with a forced fumble in the Owls win at South Florida, has been named the C-USA defensive player of the week for September 16th, 2013.

Smith provided a great defensive effort in the Owls' 28-10 victory at South Florida, the Owls first win against a BCS AQ school since defeating Minnesota in 2007. Smith tallied four tackles (all solo) and one for a loss of four yards, while adding a pass breakup and two forced fumbles.

He forced a fumble that FAU's Cory Henry returned 10 yards for the game's first score and had an interception on the FAU 25 which he returned for a touchdown. Smith's 75-yard interception return provided the third most return yards in a game by an individual. His pass breakup stalled a USF drive on third and six at the FAU 32, forcing a field goal. Smith was also credited with a forced fumble on the USF 41 that FAU's Martin Wright recovered.

Speaking of 305 Owls, we have a commit from Central's Bain (a two star OL). His team mate is a three star OL that is committed to USF. First chance we get, we should go down there and talk to that kid. That would make for a nice pair of OLmen that already have some chemistry. Just a thought.

Smith's 75-yard interception return was the third-longest in the program's history.

Only the 3rd longest?!…I'm drawing a blank on the other 2…

I agree totally, we gotta start consistantly start getting mostly 3 stars commits and even an occasional 4 star, not just 2 or 3 three stars a year! Go after em Coaches, build this program!
