C-USA Football: Games for Week of 10-05-13

For the first and only time this season Saturday’s schedule is made up of seven C-USA league games. Six of the seven will take place in the afternoon and six of the seven will be televised. Four of the matchups will be the first meeting between schools.

The day’s action begins with UTSA visiting Marshall. The Roadrunners will be looking to make it two straight wins on the road in conference play, but will have to do it against a Thundering Herd team that tops C-USA in total offense and total defense.

Florida Atlantic and UAB met as non-conference foes for four straight years from 2008-11 and after a one-year absence they meet again. This year’s game is at Legion Field, where the teams have split the first two meetings at the historic venue, and is available on the C-USA Digital Network.

An East Division showdown between East Carolina and Middle Tennessee will take place featuring teams enter Saturday sitting atop the division with 1-0 league records as they meet for the first time.

There will be lots of green in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome when North Texas makes its first visit to play Tulane. The Mean Green are familiar with the Superdome, having played in four New Orleans Bowls.  This will be the first conference game for North Texas as members of C-USA.

Another West Division battle will take place when Rice goes to Tulsa. The Owls will be out to avenge a tough 28-24 defeat in Tulsa last season in the conference opener for the Golden Hurricane.

FIU and Southern Miss will match up for the first time in the conference opener for both teams in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Panthers had a bye last week, while the Golden Eagles finished a challenging three-game road trip at Boise State.

The only night game of the week takes place in El Paso, where UTEP hosts Louisiana Tech in a West Division showdown. Both teams enter the game at 0-1 in league play, so a win is key for staying in the divisional race.

POW performance don't ya think! Congrats to the entire Owls team - ST's included. Put this past you and improve!

And to anyone thinking we did not dominat, 37-23 win on the road with a MINIMUM of 8 points lost and 3 points given by the ST's today, that is ANOTHER 11 on top of the 37 we got with ZERO turnovers by our D. THAT and almost 600 yards of O were GREAT! So 14 point win which "could have" been a 25 point win on the road………GO OWLS!

FINAL:

In the battle of Green, the Mean version scored all of their points in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, it was not enough to surge past the Wave.

FINAL:

Rice 30  Tulsa 27

The Owls notch their second straight win in a row and improve to 3-2 on the year.

The Golden Hurricane could be shadows of their former selves as they prepare to depart for the American Athletic Conference - which is obviously not good timing.

FINAL:

FIU 24  Southern Miss 23

The Golden Eagles' downward spiral continued on Saturday, as they become the lone team in C-USA without a win (0-5), and dropped their 17th straight contest.

Panther RB Silas Spearman III's 134 yards and two touchdowns lead FIU to victory.

Southern Miss had a late chance at the tie behind a FG attempt which was tipped and did not go the distance.

Shoot…I was hoping the last game of the year would be to give the kitties a winless season and the Owls a bowl bid, now it can only be for another whoppin' of the kitties.

GO OWLS!
