C-USA Football: Games for Week of 10-12-13

Six conference games comprise Saturday’s schedule, including a pair of divisional showdowns in the East and West divisions, as well as two inter-division matchups.  Two first time meetings between schools will take place and five of the six games will be televised.

East Carolina and Tulane will meet in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for the second straight season. The Pirates won 38-23 last year, which was ECU’s fifth straight victory in the series. Both teams enter the game sitting in first place in their respective divisions with 2-0 league ledgers.

Rice and UTSA will meet in San Antonio as conference foes for the first time, as the Owls downed the Roadrunners in a non-conference game in Houston last year. Rice is off to a 2-0 start in C-USA play for the first time since 2008.

Fresh off a conference-opening win over UTSA, Marshall heads to Florida Atlantic. Although it will be the first meeting between the schools, many Thundering Herd players will be in familiar surroundings, as 18 players on the Herd’s two-deep hail from the Sunshine State, with most from south Florida. Both teams are coming off victories in C-USA play last Saturday.

Middle Tennessee and North Texas will face each other for the 13th consecutive year when the clubs square off in Denton, Texas. Both schools suffered close league losses last weekend.

UAB will be on the road in Miami to face an FIU team that won its inaugural Conference USA game last Saturday at Southern Miss. This is the first meeting between the schools.

West Division evening action takes place when Tulsa visits UTEP. This is a must-win game for both teams as the Golden Hurricane and Miners are the only West Division clubs without a conference victory.

I'd hate to think the FIU and FAU could have the same record after this week. Pullin' for UAB!

Despite being a bad team, last weekend was a natural disaster for Southern Miss.

The idiom of "lightning doesn't strike in the same place twice" may be a myth, but the 2013 Panthers striking two weeks in a row with a "W" is not.

I could not believe the line opened at -1 for FIU.

Betters couldn't either, and gobbled that chance up to the tune of what is now -7 UAB as Vegas had to hedge.

UAB should be able to pull it off no problem.

FINAL:

Rice 27  UTSA 21

The Owls jumped out to a 20-7 first half lead that the Roadrunners could not overcome.

UTSA posted a 24-15 advantage in first downs, and racked up 434 yards overall in the loss.

FINAL:

East Carolina 33  Tulane 36 3OT

The longest game in Green Wave program history ends in style.

It took three extra periods, but ECU missed a 34 yard attempt in the third extension to give Tulane
the chance for the upset and they rode it.

The Pirates had 233 more yards for the contest, and 16 more first downs.

FINAL:

Marshall 24  Florida Atlantic 23

A missed extra point by FAU earlier in the contest allowed just enough separation, as the Herd booted the game winning FG with :06 to play; snuffing the life out of the Owls' upset effort.

Quez Johnson posted 265 all purpose yards, and William Dukes had five catches for 70 yards.

Finding four wins on the remaining schedule will prove a tough task.

Tulane is not as good as Marshall, then add in NM St., S. Miss and FIU and we can and will win our six games this year! Hell, we are a threat to Auburn IMHO, they had better not sleep on us! Next week could be our programs statement game. Not sayin it will be, but could be! Get through that game healthy and with confidence and then wewin the last four, GO OWLS!

Going to be very tough to pull out 4-of-5, IMHO.

Teams are finding footing, and we now have to finish perfect in C-USA play.

Tulane beat ECU tonight.

FIU trails UAB 21-17 at the half - at home.

What IS working in our favor is exciting play should we somehow get to 6-6…despite the miscues.

Bowl committee's will take that into account.
