A big East Division contest Thursday night opens this week's action, as first place Marshall heads to Middle Tennessee. The Thundering Herd and Blue Raiders have not met since the 1994 NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. Expect the defenses to play a key role in this one, as Marshall leads C-USA in total defense and Middle Tennessee leads in turnovers forced.
A pair of West Division showdowns featuring the two unbeaten teams in league play open Saturday's action. Tulane is 3-0 in C-USA play and can become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2002 with a victory over Tulsa at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Rice (3-0 in C-USA, 5-2 overall) is one win from becoming bowl-eligible for the second straight season, but must get past UTEP at Rice Stadium.
UAB is coming off its first win in conference play as it gets ready to play UTSA for the first time. Both teams have a running back with a nose for the end zone as Blazers junior Darrin Reaves is now fourth in school history with 20 rushing touchdowns and Roadrunners junior David Glasco II has a program-record 17 touchdowns (15 rushing).
North Texas and Southern Miss will meet for the first time since they squared off in the 2004 New Orleans Bowl. The Mean Green have won their last two Conference USA games and will be looking to make it three straight wins overall for the first time since 2004.
Louisiana Tech will make its first-ever visit to FIU. This game will be available on the C-USA Digital Network.
Florida Atlantic will play the only non-conference game of the week when it visits Auburn. In his last three games, Owls junior QB Quez Johnson has thrown for 807 yards and rushed for 227, while throwing six touchdowns and running for four more scores.

Over 4100 yards of total O and 40 combined TD's - what a freaking year that would be! Keep it up Quez and keep improving, in two years you may be NFL bound! Light up Auburn Owls!

Quick correction: Quez is a sophomore but he certainly plays like a junior.

So much for much defense, as these two squads combine to hit the century mark in total points and tally over 1,033 yards collectively.
On the ropes, the Herd could only watch as MTSU drove 79 yards over the final 2:29 for a last second for the win that was initially set up by an 18 yard 4th down conversion from QB Logan Kilgore (277 yards, 4TD).
MTSU posted 303 yards on the ground, and had two carriers pass the century mark as well in both Jordan Parker (127) and Reggie Whately (104, career high).
Rakeem Kato was 19-of-35 for 235 yards and 3TD for Marshall, and also ran for 47.
