Marshall and Tulsa will open this week’s action on Thursday night when the Thundering Herd make the trek to Oklahoma to face the Golden Hurricane.  These teams played a highly-entertaining affair in Huntington last season, with Tulsa pulling out a 45-38 win.  Marshall will be seeking a win to keep pace with East Carolina in the East Division race.

Four games are on the docket for Saturday, including three divisional showdowns.

Florida Atlantic and Southern Miss get the day started in the first meeting between the schools.  The Owls were idle last weekend and enter the stretch of the regular season needing to wins its final three games in order to become bowl-eligible.

UAB visits East Carolina looking to upset the division-leading Pirates.  Blazers freshman RB Jordan Howard is one of the nation’s best rookie running backs, while Pirates quarterback Shane Carden continues to put up huge numbers in the passing game, accounting for a school-record seven touchdowns last week (five passing).

Louisiana Tech and Rice are familiar foes and will meet as conference brethren for the first time in a decade when both teams played in the WAC. The Bulldogs are seeking their third straight win as they make a run towards bowl-eligibility, but will face an Owls team that has not lost a November home game since 2007 (11 straight victories).

FIU and UTEP will be meeting for the first time in El Paso.  Two of the league’s most productive freshmen will be on display in Panthers TE Jonnu Smith and Miners RB Aaron Jones.

They stay alive for Bowl eligibility on Saturday, and win back-to-back games for the first time since the 2010 season.

The defense showed up big time as well, holding the Golden Eagles to a 2013 worst 189 yards for the contest.

FINAL:

FIU 10  UTEP 33

The Miners show who's boss in the bottom dweller's match-up of the day.

Nathan Jeffrey (2TD) led a ground attack that romped for 327 yards and an average of 6.2 ypc against the Panther's porous run defense.

Fifty three of UTEP's 60 total plays were hand-offs.

Given that factor, get ready to see the Shula Trophy back were it belongs on November 29th.

I really hope FIU doesn't learn how to play football before we face them.
