Ohio State had only eight players available, but was able to withstand a furious rally attempt by Florida Atlantic for a 91-88 win on Sunday afternoon.

The Owls (0-2) trailed by as many as 23 points slightly before the midway point of the first period, reducing the deficit to 52-41 at half time.

In a spirited effort, they continued to chip away, eventually getting to within a single point on multiple occasions. Latavia Dempsey's three pointer with :35 left to play made it a 89-88 game, but that would be it for the visitors.

Dempsey (19 points) was 5-of-9 from downtown, and one of three players in double digits. She was joined by Takia Brooks (25 points) and Kimberly Smith (15 points).

Despite giving up height at nearly every position, Florida Atlantic kept the battle off the glass relatively close with a 40-32 effort that favored Ohio State; although the Owls edged in the offensive category by two rebounds. Chenise Miller made a team high 11 grabs for FAU.

FAU's bench outpaced the short handed OSU roster 39-6 for the contest.

Sophomore Cait Craft scored a career high 29 points for the Buckeyes (2-0), who remain undefeated for the last 15 seasons in their home openers.

The Owls next play host to Florida Memorial on November 16th at 5:00 PM.

Women's basketball finds the win column with a strong showing over Florida Memorial on Saturday…Game release via SID Brandon Goodwin:

The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball game played a game to remember in its home opener on Saturday, defeating Florida Memorial 120-43 at the FAU Arena. The Owls’ 77-point margin of victory broke the school record of 75 that had stood longer than any player on the FAU roster has been alive. The previous record came on Jan. 30, 1989 when the Owls defeated Barry 121-46.

FAU’s 33 steals tied a Conference USA record and its 120 points were the second-most in school history and third-most in conference history. The Owls were one point shy of the school record of 121 points in a game (Jan. 30, 1989 vs. Barry). The Owls’ 46 free throws, 68 field goal attempts, and 58.8 field goal percentage are all second-best in school history.

Five Owls reached double-digit scoring, led by senior Latavia Dempsey who drained eight of her 12 shots en route to her 21 points. Freshmen Aaliyah Dotson and Shaneese Bailey showed off for the FAU fans in their first home game as Owls, scoring 18 and 15 points, respectively. Shanequa Schrouder scored 14 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. Senior Briah Blakely racked up eight steals in just 14 minutes on the court and scored ten points on the night.

Each of FAU's eleven active players scored at least five points in the game. Florida Memorial was led by Nicole Collins who scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds.

The Owls jumped out to a 30-9 lead just nine minutes into the contest and never looked back. The Lions committed 30 turnovers in the first half, which FAU turned into 45 points on the other end. The Owls went on a 32-3 run to end the first half with a 65-24 lead.

FAU pieced together a 42-7 run to end the game at 120-43 in front of the crowd of 561. The Owls finished the night with 62 points in the paint, 66 bench points, and 74 points off of FMU’s 47 turnovers.

The Owls hit the road to face Western Illinois on Wednesday, Nov. 20 and Cleveland State on Saturday, Nov. 23. Live audio for each game will be provided on FAUSports.com.
