C-USA Football: Games for Week of 11-30-13

For the third consecutive season, East Carolina and Marshall will meet each other in their final games of the regular season. The last two meetings have proven to be very memorable. In 2011, with the winner earning a bowl berth, Marshall prevailed in overtime, 34-27, in a game highlighted by one of the catches of the year in college football, a late second quarter one-handed scoring reception by Marshall's Aaron Dobson. Last year, the teams played the highest scoring game in conference history, as East Carolina won at home, 65-59, in double overtime. This year, the winner will be crowned East Division Champion and play in the Conference USA Championship Game.

FIU and Florida Atlantic are separated by just 45 miles and the closest rivalry in C-USA will be renewed Friday afternoon in Boca Raton. The Owls have won three straight games and a victory over their rivals will make FAU bowl-eligible.

North Texas enters Saturday's action knowing that it can still tie for first place in the West Division with a victory at Tulsa. The Mean Green are already assured of its highest win total since the 2004 season, the last year that it played in a bowl game.

Rice and Tulane could still win the West Division with the Owls in the drivers seat, so a lot will be on the line when these teams square off in Houston. An Owls victory would give the Blue & Grey just their second season with nine or more wins since 1953 and their first appearance in the C-USA Championship Game. A Green Wave victory, coupled with a UTSA loss, would send the Green Wave to the title game for the first time.

Middle Tennessee will welcome UTEP  as the Blue Raiders aim for a second straight eight-win campaign. Middle Tennessee is also seeking to close the regular season on a five-game winning streak.

UTSA hosts Louisiana Tech with a possibility of winning the West Division and playing in the C-USA Championship game its first year in the league. For the Roadrunners, picked to finish last in the West Division, a win would give them a 6-2 league record and UTSA would win a three-way tie with Rice and Tulane, as well as a four-way tie with Rice, Tulane and North Texas.

I am rooting for Marshall over ECU just because ECU is leaving the conference.

FINAL:

East Carolina 28  Marshall 59

The Herd (9-3, 7-1) take the East Division 2013 C-USA Crown with a decisive win over the Pirates.

ECU (9-3, 6-2) saw normally reliable Shane Carden toss three INT's on the afternoon; almost half his total for the entire season.

Rakeem Cato threw a pair of scoring strikes, and ran for another two for Marshall.

FINAL:

FIU 6  Florida Atlantic 21

The final score wasn't what most had expected, or hoped for, but a win to pull even (6-6, 4-4 C-USA) at the close of the regular season combined with the fact that is was against the Panthers surely places a nice finish on a schedule which had many question marks at the onset.

Sacks (8) reigned supreme as the Owls' highlight of the day, bringing the program to a new all time mark for a year's play (32).

Florida International finishes out their inaugural C-USA slate at 1-11 overall and 1-7 in league play, while lining the bottom in quite a few statistical categories.

Inquiring minds are now wondering why they were invited into membership ahead of FAU.

I thought we discussed this and know it was because they are in a larger city and TV market.

Probably should have included red font.

Regardless, being a loser in a winning TV market aint going to pay off in the long run.

I have to agree with you.
I would say that their demographics and sharing the market with the hurricanes will keep the giant sleeping for years to come.
