CHRIS HURD
Quality Control - Special Teams
Chris Hurd is in his first season at Arkansas as the special teams quality control coach and came to Fayetteville with eight years of collegiate coaching experience.
Most recently, Hurd worked in strength and conditioning at Tennessee for two seasons. He was an intern in 2011 and an assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2012. During his time at Tennessee, the Vols produced seven All-SEC selections and five NFL Draft picks, including 2013 first-round selection Cordarrelle Patterson. In 2012, Tennessee ranked in the top five in the SEC in 10 different categories, including leading the conference in sacks
allowed and ranking in the top three in four other categories.
Prior to Tennessee, Hurd spent four seasons coaching at Cisco College in Cisco, Texas, where his positions included defensive coordinator for three seasons and special teams coordinator for two seasons. In 2007, his first season at Cisco, he coached defensive backs, a position he continued to coach throughout his time there, in addition to handling
punt and kickoff units.
Hurd began coaching at North Texas as a strength and conditioning
graduate assistant in 2004. He moved to the field in 2005 and 2006, to coaching tight ends his first season and defensive backs the next year. The 2004 squad stretched the program’s bowl streak to four consecutive seasons with an appearance in the Wyndham New Orleans Bowl.
He also played for the Mean Green, lettering from 2000-03, helping them to 25 wins in those four seasons and bowl appearances in each of his last three seasons. He was the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-Sun Belt selection at linebacker in 2003, recording 120 tackles, 7.0 for loss with 2.0 sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The team’s trip to the 2001 New Orleans Bowl was its first bowl game since 1959 and began a streak of four straight bowl appearances.
Hurd, a native of Killeen, Texas, graduated from North Texas in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in history.

I made a post on the UNT board to see if they had any other info on him and directed them here. Hopefully they can give some additional insight on him.

Also his twitter handle is

https://twitter.com/CoachChrisHurd and he already has his background set to FAU.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Well Phil Steele has FAU ST ranked at 94 and Arkansas ST at 50 so that is good and could mean 1 or 2 wins right there with that type of ST improvement, especially when our P Kelly is much better than their P was to begin with.

Thanks for finding this, I was digging. I wouldn't be surprised if he is named tight end coach as well.

This is definitely a good move as far as recruiting, Texas is the biggest state for recruiting if im not mistaken and he played and coached there.

I would assume Meyer told Chun - recruit recruit recruit. So we have a coaching staff of good recruiters. How about coaching or is that the OC and DC job? Dewitt pretty much showed in the last 4 games he can handle that. Wright took over after Pelini was let go and did some smarter play calling. Do we have good coaches?

I like the idea of Dewitt on staff because of his education. I don't know how effective it would be for recruiting but it has to impress some or all parents when a coach with a degrees in physics and math is talking to them about their kids education and future. It would leave an impression that FAU athletics takes education seriously (which I hope they do). Just my view on it.

FAU's release:

Florida Atlantic University Head Football Coach Charlie Partridge has named Roc Bellantoni and Chris Hurd to his staff.

Bellantoni joins the team with 21 years of coaching experience, as the Owls co-defensive coordinator. He will focus his primary attention on the defensive lines where he will welcome the return of rising juniors Trevon Coley, who has started the last 24 games, and all-conference honoree Brandin Bryant, who led FAU much of the season in tackles until he was edged in the final game due to a game-ending injury.

Bellatoni comes to FAU after a two-year stint at Villanova University where he served as the defensive line and special teams coach as well as the primary recruiter for the state of Florida. Prior to Villanova, he coached at Eastern Illinois University for 11 seasons working his way from defensive line coach to associate head coach. He also focused his recruiting efforts in Florida. His first collegiate coaching experience was at Drake University where he was a part of two Pioneer Football League championships.

“Coach Roc [Bellatoni] will be a valuable resource as a defensive coordinator,” said Partridge. “He has coordinated defense and special teams successfully and will be a great teacher for our defensive line. He also has been recruiting Florida for the last 14 years and is well respected by area high school coaches.”

Chris Hurd will join the staff as the special team coordinator and tight ends coach. Hurd has nine years of experience coaching on both sides of the ball, and also as a strength and conditioning coach. Most recently, he was a special teams quality control coach at the University of Arkansas, where he worked with FAU Head Coach Charlie Partridge. He has been a part of eight bowl games as either a player or coach. Hurd will work with the tight ends, who return three-year letterman Alex Deleon, as well as with the Owls special teams which returns All-Conference Second Team punter Sean Kelly.

“I am excited about the future of the Owl special teams and tight ends under Chris Hurd’s watch,” said Partridge. “He has vast experience and tremendous knowledge as a football coach that will be an asset to our program.”

The duo will join Brian Wright, associate head coach; Roger Harriott, assistant head coach; Jovan Dewitt, co-defensive coordinator; Bart Miller, assistant coach/OL; and Dan Shula, assistant coach/WR, bringing the assistant staff total to seven along with four graduate assistants. The remaining staff additions will be completed in the coming weeks.
