FAU’s Road to Signing Day 2014: Tight End

Ronquavion Tarver

Tight End

The Skinny: If there is one concern for FAU’s offense heading into next season, it’s the depth at tight end. Junior Alex Deleon returns for his final season, but outside of him there is no player on the roster who has seen meaningful snaps at the position. FAU had been courting a large contingent of junior college prospects to counter the lack of experience, but the coaching staff changes derailed a majority of the contacts, leaving the Owls in a difficult position. Dustin Bowens, a signee from last year’s class, is expected to contribute, but FAU will need to find some youth that can compete for playing time. New assistant coach Chris Hurd has cast a wide web on the recruiting trail, but the only question is who can he get to ink letters of intent.

Committed:

None.

Targets:

Jacob Wilson - Chipley (Chipley, Fla.) - Wilson is a pass-catching tight end that has visited the Boca Raton campus on a few occasions. He tore his ACL after his junior season, which neglected him from much of the college interest he would have received. New head coach Charlie Partridge recently reached out to Wilson, and he will visit the weekend of January 17th.

Nate Terry - South Dade (Homestead, Fla.) - Terry is a wide receiver that projects as a tight end in college. He’s 6-foot-5, 210 pounds and has the ability to be a factor in a pass-heavy tight end offense. He hasn’t heard from many schools, but will visit FAU on January 24th. Terry is more of a tweener tight end, that probably needs a year or two in the weight room.

Max Linder - West Port (Ocala, Fla.) - Linder has been committed to Middle Tennessee State since June, but that hasn’t stopped Hurd from trying to make contact. The two have spoken on a few occasions and an official visit could be in the works. Linder will visit MTSU on January 17th, and doesn't have any set plans after that. The FAU-connection is new, but it’s beginning to develop.

Ronquavion Tarver - Glades Central (Belle Glade, Fla.) - Tarver is the teammate of current FAU commit Jerry Jones. Similar to the situation with Terry, he’s a future tight end in a wide receiver's body. The Owls have offered Tarver, and he would be an ideal option to land in the class. A visit is still in the works for Tarver.

Kedar Bryant - Providence (Jacksonville, Fla.) - Like Linder, Bryant is committed elsewhere. The two-star tight end verballed to Furman back in November over offers from Marshall and Middle Tennessee State. FAU has yet to offer Bryant, but there is interest for now.

Hunter Atkinson - West Hall (Oakwood, Ga.) - Atkinson is a rare three-star tight end that is currently uncommitted.  Hurd has put out his feelers on Atkinson, but there might be some stiff competition. Wake Forest and Illinois have both extended offers in the past month, meaning this one could be a long-shot.

Others to Watch:

Zach Hovey (Eden Prairie, Mn.); Santiago Hoffman (Osceola, Fla.); Alex Carswell (Strawberry Crest, Fla.); Kyle Griffitts (West Orange, Fla.).

You're the man, Andrew. All of these are phenomenal and on point.

In this particular case, I wasn't even aware how thin we were at TE. That's concerning.

Didn't a TE from Orlando commit for a while?

I love dropkicks and fat guy touchdowns.

Yes, Brandon Pylar was committed for a while, but that was to the previous staff. One of the problems under Pelini was that often recruits would verbal to one coach, and not the entire staff. It created a lot of confusion. Partridge has set out to change that.

Jordan's uniforms are Adidas and look remarkably similar to ours:

He just showed up on the radar today. He is slated to visit UCF this weekend, but Roc Bellantoni is scheduled to drop in tomorrow.

Well if he is good enough for the present day UCF he is good enough for us!
