The series

FAU and Marshall met in Huntington earlier this year and the Owls finished the game on top. Pablo Bertone and Justin Raffington finished the game in double-digits, with Raffington grabbing a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. The Owls squeaked by after making the final 5 free throws of the game to hold onto their lead.

FAU at a Glance

The Owls head into the Conference USA tournament after dropping a home loss to rival FIU despite a valiant effort by freshman Marquan Botley. Botley had a career high 27 points against the Golden Panthers on senior night, and it was well needed in the absence of leading scorer Pablo Bertone.

“Pablo could have played tonight, it would have hurt, but if we really needed him he could have come in. I figured I would rest him with some ice over the weekend and have him ready for the tournament,” stated Jarvis.

Bertone finished the season as the conference’s leading scorer and points leader, which landed him on the first team All-Conference USA. The senior averaged 18.9 points per game and 2.1 assists per game.

Jarvis is entering potentially his last game as the Owls head coach after announcing his retirement last. Jarvis is the all-time winningest coach in FAU history and holds a 77-110 record in his time at FAU.

Bertone will suit up, but the Owls still have issues with their big men. Penn is still not 100% (ankle), and Sekelja is experiencing back trouble again. There is a slim chance Pelchen would start, but we're penciling in Penn in what could be a game time decision.

Marshall at a Glance

The Thundering Herd capped off a less than impressive 2013-14 season with a 74-70 home loss to Charlotte.

Marshall made a late run against Charlotte to cut the 49ers lead to three in the final minutes, but Kareem Canty’s solo 10-point run was all for naught when the Hail Marry 3-pointer by Canty was grabbed by Charlotte to close out Senior Night.

Freshman Kareem Canty has led the squad all year in an impressive first year campaign. The Herd’s new guard finished the season with a team leading 16.4 points per game and 5.7 assists per game. Canty had a big December and was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week three consecutive weeks.

Marshall finished the year at 10-21 on the season and a 4-12 Conference USA record. The Herd’s biggest win in 2013-14 was against Western Kentucky (74-64) who is slotted second in the Sun Belt this year.

The squad finished its fourth year with Head Coach Tom Herrion, who has had back-to-back mediocre seasons after racking up 43 wins in his first two seasons.

Latest Line:

FAU -1

Owl's Nest Prediction

The Owls have had a rough end of the 2014 year losing 6 straight games, attributing to an offensive slump. However he squad's increased offensive production and reliable rebounding ability has made us believe the Owls will put up a strong fight against the Herd and grab a close win in the first round of the C-USA tournament.
