FAU Football to host camp in Tallahassee

Post

FAU will put on a one-day camp in Tallahassee this summer, which should get assistants like Terrance Jamison working with prospects he usually wouldn't see.

FAU coach Charlie Partridge has found his latest recruiting ploy. The Owls will host a satellite camp this summer at Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee.

The camp, which is scheduled for June 20th, will gave FAU coaches an opportunity to evaluate high school prospects that won’t be able to make to South Florida.

The event will be the first-of-its-kind for FAU. However, it isn’t something foreign to college football and recruiting. FIU hosts camps in Jacksonville and Tampa, while Penn State coaches will work the Georgia State camp this summer with the main focus being to evaluate prospects they usually wouldn't see.

Lawton Chiles is centrally located in Florida’s Panhandle and is just six miles from Interstate 10. It’s also nine miles from the Florida-Georgia border, making it also accessible to prospects from outside of the state.

FAU assistant Chris Hurd has been making the rounds in Tallahassee this spring, and has visited a majority of the high schools. It’s likely that local prospects such as: OT Tarrick Thomas, DT R.J. Harris, DE Danny Thomas, TE Mac Carey, LB Kevin Dawson, S Raekwon Jones could attend the camp.

It should be noted that the Owls signed five players from the Panhandle in 2013. Three of those players (RB Jay Warren, S Lester Thomas and CB Marcus Clark) are expected to contribute this season.

The other FAU summer camp dates are: June 9th-10th and July 21st-22nd in Boca Raton. There will also be a one-day camp for specialists July 24th. For registration information, click here.

Excellent news, so glad to hear this! Coach P is moving us more and more forward with modern aggressive recruiting methods. If we are to not just compete, but excel in CUSA and beyond we have to keep moving forward.

Seems like after our bowl wins we rested on our laurels and expected recruits to come running to us, even though we ahd a stadium on the horizon or even under construction, we still played at Lockhart. But this was the exact time the out of state schools OF ALL LEVELS began to raid S. Fl aggressively for recuits so…

Go get 'em Coach P and staff, go get 'em! Now go a step further and do like Penn St., set up a camp in metro Atlanta. The more we take away from the Fl panhandle and Ga helps us AND hurts WKU, MTSU and UAB especially and all are in our CUSA division! But nothing lower than 3 stars, be selective, be very selective! We don't just want warm bodies anymove, we need quality football players.
