Seven teams are in action this week with Florida Atlantic, La Tech, Southern Miss, and Western Kentucky all enjoying byes.

Middle Tennessee (3-0, 4-2) at Marshall (1-0, 5-0) is the marquee game on the Conference USA schedule this week, with both teams unbeaten in conference play as these East Division foes clash in Huntington, W. Va..

Last year’s meeting was arguably the game of the year in C-USA. After the Herd took a 49-45 lead with 2:19 to play, the Blue Raiders drove the length of the field and Logan Kilgore threw a TD pass to Tavarres Jefferson as time expired to give Middle Tennessee a 51-49 win.  Marshall comes into this year’s game leading the league in scoring offense (47.6 ppg) and scoring defense (15.8 ppg), while Middle Tennessee is second in rushing offense (224.7 ypg) and third in scoring offense (38.3 ppg).

North Texas travels to UAB in a pivotal game for both teams. Freshman QB Dajon Williams has thrown six TDs and ran for two more in his first two starts for the Mean Green. The Blazers are the only C-USA team with two rushers ranked in the league’s top 10 (Jordan Howard is second with 564 yards and 5 TDs, while D.J. Vinson is ninth with 364 yards and 7 TDs).

FIU has won back-to-back C-USA games as the Panthers travel to UTSA. The Panthers playmaking defense has forced a league-high 21 turnovers on the season. The Roadrunners are hoping to get back on track in conference play following a tough loss at home to New Mexico last week.

Old Dominion will meet UTEP for the first time. Both clubs are on two-game losing streaks, as the Monarchs seek to get its usually potent passing attach back on track, while Miners hope the ground game can return to productivity.

Rice will step out of conference play to visit Army. The Owls have won two straight and are beginning to get back some key players that have been injured.

Top 25 status surely looms for the Thundering Herd (6-0, 2-0) after today's performance.

Rakeem Cato threw for 337 yards and 3TD, and should former Marshall QB pass Byron Leftwich for 2nd place in total yards next week.

The Blue Raiders (4-3, 3-1), who suffered their first league loss, faced pressure all game long, and struggled to make big yardage plays.

Teams we face in the final weeks with bad D's - WKU, MTSU, ODU, UAB and N. Texas. Only Marshall has a competent D and even then, not that great.

Like last year, we should score lots of points down the stretch, if we stop the turnover gift machine

The way to beat the Panthers:

Give them a dose of their own turnover medicine.

And that's just what the Roadrunners did - five times.

Old Dominion 35  UTEP 42

The Miners (3-3, 1-1) withstand a late push by the Monarchs (3-4, 1-3 ), who attempted a last ditch on-sides kick effort with under a minute to go.

UTEP controlled time of possession handily, with just under 23 minutes of extra time.

They also ran 25 more plays, and rumbled for 334 yards on the ground.

Middle, UAB, and UNT have better defenses than us. Will not be easy to put up points on Middle and UNT when we play them on the road.
