Florida Atlantic's Olivia MBala has been named Conference USA women's soccer Defensive Player of the Year award.
MBala anchored a Florida Atlantic defense that ranked fourth in C-USA in goals allowed per match at 0.98. The Owls gave up multiple goals just twice in conference action and shutout top-seeded North Texas for its only C-USA loss. The redshirt-senior also got involved on the offensive end by recording three goals, including the game-winner at intrastate foe Miami.
Joining MBala is forward Claire Emslie, who received 2nd Team recognition, and midfield newcomers Asta Arnadottir and Hildur Hauksdottir who were named to the All-Freshman Team.
Emslie registered a team high five goals off of a squad best 66 attempts, and saw two game winners on the season. Hauksdottir wasn't far behind, netting four scores for the year and also a pair of contest winners.
Arnadottir, who was one of just four Owls to start every game in 2014, was responsible for two of the team's goals - one a game winner - and added an assist as well.
