Game Notes
The Owls will look once again to lefty Brandon Rhodes for a road win over the Canes. Rhodes went five 5.2 innings in FAU's 5-2 victory last season in Coral Gables, allowing two runs off four hits while striking out five Miami batters.
The trio of Riley Monkman, Kevin Alexander, and Bo Logan shut the Hurricanes out the rest of the way. Logan tossed two full innings facing just seven batters and allowing one hit.
On the hill for Miami will be right hander Derik Beauprez, who tossed 2.0 innings of relief in UM's 25-4 romp over Rutgers last Sunday and was awarded the win. Beauprez had four starts and six total appearances in 2014, finishing with a 1-0 mark and striking out 17 batters in his 21.2 innings of action.
FAU infielders Ricky Santiago (photo) and Stephen Kerr had solid offensive showings against Miami over the course of the three games played last season, each going .500 at the plate (6-of-12) with three runs scored. Santiago's highlight was a two run shot over the wall in the Owls' win.
So far in 2015 the Hurricanes are batting .371 as a team to the Owls' mark of .294.
However, FAU has four hitters pacing at .330 or better in Christian Dicks (.500), Esteban Puerta (.455), Brett Lashley (.400, 4RBI), and Stephen Kerr (.333, 3RBI).
Florida Atlantic is receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 25 after the weekend's 3-0 sweep over UCONN (16-5, 2-1, 5-4), which included walk off performances in the last two contests.
