And they are pretty decent this season too. Could make a run if they make their conference tourney.

The are really good considering they are the youngest team in the country.  They struggle on the road a bit.  I would guess that inexperience will catch up to them down the road, but watch out when they get some more experience.  At home they are a different team and are absolutely worth the price of admission.  Lots of fun to watch.

Today's contest release via SID Brandon Goodwin:

The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team dropped a 68-45 Conference USA matchup at UTSA on Sunday after falling behind early.

With the loss, the Owls (11-10, 5-5 C-USA) slip to a tie for ninth in the C-USA standings with eight games remaining on the schedule.

UTSA (11-12, 6-5 C-USA) grabbed more rebounds than the Owls had points and did not allow an FAU player to reach double-digit scoring.

The Roadrunners started the game on a 16-2 run and held FAU without a field goal for the first 8:12 before freshman Melinda Myers hit a jumper and Malia Kency made a three-pointer to cut into the lead.

FAU trimmed the UTSA advantage to 16-9 before the Roadrunners went on another run of 10-2 and led by as many as 15 in the first half. Kat Wright would hit a three-pointer to make it a ten point game before UTSA tacked on a pair of free throws to go back up 34-22 just before the half.

An 8-0 run, extended to a 16-2 run to start the second half put the game on cruise control for the Roadrunners with a 50-26 lead at the second media timeout of the second half.

The Owls would get no closer than 18 points for the rest of the contest and UTSA’s 11 second-half free throws helped the Roadrunners earn the largest lead of the game at 25 points with just over two minutes left. FAU did not make a field goal over the final 5:06 of the game.

Myers ended the day with eight points and a team-high six rebounds while Kency and Shaneese Bailey led the team with nine points each. FAU was out-rebounded 48-34, leading to 25 second-chance points and 38 points in the paint for UTSA.

UTSA’s Mannasha Bell recorded a career-high 17 points and had 11 rebounds while Tesha Smith contributed 14 points.

The Owls return home to host Louisiana Tech on Thursday, Feb. 12 and Southern Miss on Saturday, Feb. 14 at FAU Arena.

Senior forward Whitney Frazier scored a game-high 20 points, including the go-ahead jumper with less than two minutes to play, as Louisiana Tech overcame a 19-point deficit to top Florida Atlantic (11-11, 5-6 C-USA), 73-68 on Thursday night in Boca Raton.

Sophomore Shaneese Bailey led FAU with 24 points while junior Morgan Robinson tied her career-high with 18 points and paced the Owls with six rebounds. Freshman Danneal Ford, making her third-straight start, doubled her previous career high with 12 points in the first 11 minutes of the game. Each of the three reached double-digit scoring in the first half alone.

Tech (12-11, 7-5 C-USA) trailed 33-14 with just over eight minutes to play in the first half before recording the third-largest come-from-behind victory in program history.

The Owls host Southern Miss (16-7, 9-3 C-USA) Saturday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. at FAU Arena.

A 12-0 run over the final 2:30 of regulation carried Southern Miss (17-7, 10-3 C-USA) to a 67-65 come-from-behind victory at Florida Atlantic (11-12, 5-7 C-USA).

Ahead 65-55, FAU would commit four turnovers and Southern Miss made five of its last six field goal attempts to end the game. Kierra Jordan made a go-ahead layup with seven seconds left and Tamara Jones made a free throw with 1.7 on the clock to ice the game.

The Lady Eagles are currently third in the league standings and have C-USA's current longest win streak (5). Reigning C-USA Player of the Week Tamara Jones and junior guard Jerontay Clemons finished with 18 points each, while Jones grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

FAU junior Morgan Robinson scored a career-high 19 points and joined freshmen Sasha Cedeno and Melinda Myers with seven rebounds.

North Texas (4-20, 3-10) posted its best offensive performance of the season en route to a 74-55 victory over Florida Atlantic.

Sahneese Bailey led FAU in scoring with 17 points while Myers tallied seven rebounds. The Owls shot 29 percent in the first half and 31 percent for the game and went 3-of-21 from beyond the arc. Fourteen of FAU’s points came from the free throw line.

The women's basketball team snapped a four game slide today, downing Rice on the road…game release via Brandon Goodwin:

The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team made 12 three-pointers, and 14 in the game, to defeat Conference USA rival Rice 82-70 on Saturday.

FAU (12-13, 6-8 C-USA) set the mark for most three-pointers in a C-USA game this season, edging Middle Tennessee’s 12 three-pointer performance at FAU Arena earlier this year.

Junior Ali Gorrell went 9-of-9 from the free throw line and recorded her fifth double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace FAU in both categories. Freshman Sasha Cedeno ended the day with 14 points, including a 4-for-4 three-point performance in the first half. Kat Wright and Morgan Robinson also reach double-digit scoring with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

FAU made just one jump shot in the contest, late in the first half, as it posted 42 points from beyond the arc, 20 from the free throw line and 18 in the paint.

Rice (8-17, 3-11 C-USA) led for 22 seconds early before Robinson made the first of FAU’s seven consecutive three pointers to build up a 23-8 lead just more than 11 minutes into the game.

A 10-0 run later in the half put FAU up 36-16 and a three by Cedeno before the Texas native buried another long ball with 24 seconds left to give the Owls a 24 point lead at the intermission at 45-21.

Gorrell made a layup on the first possession of the second half to give FAU its largest lead of the day at 26, but 16 second-half turnovers allowed Rice to come back.

A 13-2 run let Rice cut the lead to 61-56 with 8:25 to play before FAU responded with an 8-0 run of its own, allowing FAU to hold on for the win.

FAU returns home to host Western Kentucky on Thursday, Feb. 26 and Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 28 at FAU Arena.

The Hilltoppers recorded the program's 900th all-time win as sophomore Kendall Noble had a season high 23 points to lead WKU to a 85-74 win over Florida Atlantic (12-14, 6-9) on Thursday night.

The Owls remain in tenth place in the standings with a three-game cushion over an elimination spot. FAU could clench a seed to the Conference tournament as early as Saturday.

WKU is three victories away from clenching the Conference USA regular-season championship after the victory.

Shanneese Bailey paced FAU with 19 points while juniors Ali Gorrell and Morgan Robinson each posted 17 points. Gorrell also led the way on the boards with six rebounds and chipped in a team-high four assists.

The Owls trailed by as many as 16 points midway through the second period, and would get to within five with just under a minute remaining. However, Western Kentucky (24-4, 13-2) forced two turnovers and ended the contest on a 6-0 run to seal the game.

Tennis legend Chris Evert was on hand to help the Owls celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day. “It is such an honor to receive the National Girls and Women in Sports Day award from FAU,” Evert said.

FAU hosts Marshall in its final home game of the season on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

I was watching the game and didn't even notice (for 10 min) that Chris sat down next to me. She just started talking to me and when I turned to talk, I did a double take.  We talked a while and she said: you know FAU doesn't have a tennis court on campus.  I said: you know we can fix that with a "Chris Evert Tennis Complex." She laughed at that one and said: Yeah right, I would only have to give $2M.  Personally I think that would be a great fit.

Someone from FAU…work this relationship!

It was great to have the opportunity to talk to her…and she retweeted me…haha.
