Notables
The Herd locked up the final spot in the C-USA Tournament last night with a convincing 87-69 thumping of Florida International. Five players were in double figures for Marshall, who held the Panthers to a 1-9 showing from downtown in the 2nd half.
Their recent success is somewhat remarkable considering an 0-6 start in league action at the onset, which has been answered by a 6-3 stint since then.
Heading into this week's action, Marshall ranked 12th nationally in both possessions per game (71.4) and three point attempts (692). Unfortunately those feats are countered by 15.3 turnovers per outing, which is 14th in NCAA DI action.
FAU at a Glance
Offense - 62.9 PPG, 41.5% FG, 34.5% 3PT
Defense - 66.1 PGA, 45.2% FGA, 28.1% 3PTA
Rebounding - 31.8 PG Team, 35.4 PG Opponents
Notables
Thursday's 71-68 loss at Diddle Arena to the Hilltoppers assured Florida Atlantic will not have a place in the 2015 C-USA Tournament. Furthermore, with just three games left on the slate, the Owls are closing in on a final record they would rather avoid.
Should they fail to pull out a game down the stretch the squad would place them just behind the worst ever finish in league play. That happened back in 1999-20 when FAU finished 0-18 in the Atlantic Sun under former coach Sydney Green.
Kelvin Penn may not be able to catch Brett Royster's mark of 301 career blocks but the senior forward will have his own place in history as the 2nd best. Penn currently has 219 dismissals to his credit and will remain solely in the #2 spot of the record book.
After having some less than stellar showings as of late, guard Solomon Poole split time with Justin Massey at the two-spot against WKU and was able to connect on a 3-of-5 performance (2-2 3PT) for eight points, and four rebounds.
