Game Notes
FAU reeled off its third sweep of the year against North Florida on Wednesday night. The clinching victory wasn't pretty, and in fact featured a season low three hits. But as Coach McCormack said, "…just take the win and move on".
The Owls missed consistency from normally reliable Stephen Kerr (1-for-9, .111), and Christian Dicks (1-for-7, .143), although the pair was responsible for three of the team's 11 runs scored for the series.
CJ Chatham (photo) began to emerge again (4-for-5, 2 DBL) until an ankle injury in game one sidelined him for the finale. Chatham is officially listed as a game time decision against Rutgers for Friday, but should see time at some point regardless.
At 11-2, the Owls are off to their best start since the 2004 campaign, when the team achieved a 12-1 mark out of the gate. Of note, the competition was arguably not as good at that time - featuring the likes of FAMU, Southern Illinois, and George Washington.
Conversely, Rutgers is off to a rough start at 1-6, which is somewhat understandable given the fact that they have yet to see the home field and won't until this week'ends contests are decided. Matters could actually be worse for the Scarlet Knights as a four game series against Tennessee was cancelled due to weather.
The Team opened 2015 with a 0-4 showing against Miami, which was highlighted by a 25-4 loss in game four. Their lone win came against C-USA member Old Dominion in what was the best offensive showing thus far with 13 runs scored - a figure that was just three off the total for the prior six contest's efforts combined.
With five positional starters and all five starting pitchers returning, the mound looks to be the strength of the squad for this year. Early on, the Scarlet Knights are hitting just .217 as a team, and do not have a player at or better than .300 with more than two plate appearances.
This will be the first year in the Big Ten Conference for the program after a 14-9 mark (3rd) in The American in 2014. Friday's starter Howie Brey, and outfielders Mike Carter (.269 2 DBL, RBI) and Vinny Zarrillo (.296, 2 DBL, 4 RBI), were tabbed by B1G head coaches as players to watch for the 2015 season.

On January 19th, 1977, snow fell in South Florida for the first time in recorded history. Residents and visitors were both surprised and thrilled at the rare phenomena, and local newspapers ran headlines which were nearly as big as it would be for major national or world events. Snow was seen across all of southeast Florida as far south as Homestead and even on Miami Beach. Reports of snow were even received from Freeport, Grand Bahama Island on the other side of the Gulf Stream from southeast Florida.

I got a phone call at some ridiculous early hour from my girl friend who had never seen snow before.
There is always that chance.
