Series

The Owls lead 3-1 all time, and took last season's series 2-1 in Boca Raton (3-2, 8-0, 1-11).

Projected Starting Pitchers

Fri:         FAU - RHP Kyle Miller (2-1, 3.66 ERA)
UNCC - LHP Sean Geoghegan (1-1, 1.02 ERA)

Sat:        FAU - RHP Drew Jackson (3-0, 0.36 ERA)
              UNCC -  LHP J.D. Prochaska (1-1, 1.65 ERA)

Sun:       FAU - RHP Robbie Coursel (2-0, 3.26 ERA)
UNCC - LHP Josh Maciejewski (1-0, 1.35 ERA)

After a successful non-conference campaign, the Owls will now move primarily to league action. The weekend marks the first true stint away from Boca Raton, as well as the first opponent with three left handed starters in the rotation. Last season the Owls were 4-4 against southpaws, and so far this season they are 5-1.

FAU will look to bounce back from defeat at the hands of NC State on Wednesday night as they begin this crucial three game set. After an amazing offensive leading up to last Wednesday's game, the Owls bats were unable to get more than one run an inning, totaling up 11 strikeouts on just 7 hits.

Christian Dicks continues to lead the Owls in home runs (5) and slugging percentage (.712). He is also 2nd in RBI (19) and on-base percentage (.435), 3rd in batting average (.327), and is a perfect 4-4 when it comes to swiping bases.

The weekend trio of Miller, Jackson, and Coursel will look to duplicate their success coming into this series after each earning a win in their last outing. Saturday's starter Drew Jackson, who leads all starters in ERA (0.36), wins (3), and innings pitched (25.1) is also holding opponents to just a .118 batting average.

Charlotte comes into this series dropping their last 4 games, their most recent coming against High Point on Tuesday. The 49ers opened up conference play last weekend against Rice, and were unable to score more than 3 runs in each game, dropping all 3. Charlotte has just a 2-6 record at home.

The 49ers will start 3 lefties against the Owls with the combination of Geoghegan, Prochaska, and Maciejewski. In their previous outings, Maciejewski was the only Charlotte starter not to be tagged with a loss.

Though under .500, the 49ers pitching staff has seen its share of success, with only 2 players who have pitched in at least 4 games with an ERA over 3.00. The Charlotte struggles have come from the plate, with only one regular starter hitting above .250 and scoring a total of 25 runs in their 10 games played.

The Owls were featured in Baseball America's Midweek Focus on Wednesday. They are 12-4 in games played on Friday the 13th.

That may be a plus for us. Our pitching is fairly deep and Charlotte is a little weaker in the bull pen. The key will be knocking out the starters. They have three good lefties that need to leave quick.
