Series Notes

The Owls head into the weekend series off of a loss against a tough Miami Hurricanes team in Coral Gables on Wednesday, falling in 10 innings by the final score of 4-3. As has been the case previously this season, FAU struggled on defense, causing a 3-run lead to evaporate late in the game, leading to the eventual defeat. This was the Owls' first loss in 5 contests.

FAU comes into this conference series tied atop the standing with Middle Tennessee, both holding a conference record of 9-3. Though the Owls were handed another weekday loss, their 3rd of the season, FAU still holds the highest win total in Conference USA with 26.

Through the first 33 games of the season, the Owls have excelled on offense, scoring the most runs (258) in the conference while also drawing the most walks (182), which creates more opportunities for scoring runs. FAU is also tied in team batting average (.312) with Rice.

Friday's starter Kyle Miller will be looking to bounce back from a rough start in his last outing, where he went just 4.2 innings giving up 6 hits and 3 runs. An upside to his start was his 5 K's in his time on the mound.

Before the season began, the Panthers were picked to finish 2nd behind Rice up the 2015 C-USA Coaches Poll. They haven't lived up to expectations, however, at this point in the season. They're is coming off of a 13-7 win against USF on Tuesday night.

FIU dropped 2 out of 3 games against UTSA last weekend. Freshman OF Jack Schaaf had 3 hits in Saturday's 11-6 win, and 2 more on Sunday, bringing his multiple-hit game total to 9 on the season.

Sophomore C JC Escarra will bring a 12 game hitting streak after totaling 5 hits over last weekend. JR 1b Edwin Rios hit his conference-leading 9th home run of the season on Saturday's win, more than any FIU player hit last season.

Freshman starter Andres Nunez tied his career-high in K's with 9 last Saturday, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits through 7.2 innings. It marked Nunez's second outing this season with 9 K's, his other coming against Manhattan on Feb. 28.

Windy days are being forecast for this weekend, with winds reaching up up to 14 MPH. Saturday and Sunday will see a 40% chance of rain, possibly causing some trouble for players and fans.
