A showdown between the two teams that Conference USA media members selected to win the league’s divisions opens week two, as Louisiana Tech visits WKU Thursday night. The Bulldogs won last year’s meeting in Ruston, holding the Hilltoppers to a season-low 10 points in a 59-10 triumph. That was the last time WKU lost a game, as the Toppers carry a six-game winning streak into its home opener.
Boca Raton will be the place to be on Friday night when Miami makes the short drive north to face Florida Atlantic at FAU Stadium. This is just the second meeting between these south Florida schools.
There are three matchups between West Division schools and Big 12 opponents spread throughout the day on Saturday. Kansas State is at a UTSA team coming off its most productive offensive output in school history to begin the action. West Texas rivals UTEP and Texas Tech meet in Lubbock for the second straight year after the Red Raiders escaped El Paso with a 30-26 win last September. Old Southwest Conference foes Rice and Texas renew acquaintances in Austin.
North Texas will finally make its 2015 debut, as the Mean Green make the short drive to Dallas to face an SMU team they defeated 43-6 last season.
FIU will look to build on its week one upset at UCF when it goes back on the road to face Indiana for the first time.
Middle Tennessee, coming off a 70-point performance in its season opening win, will have a challenge in playing at No. 3 Alabama.
ASN has four games planned for Saturday, beginning with Charlotte’s home opener vs. Presbyterian, followed by Austin Peay at Southern Miss. A pair of regional rivalry games are also as Old Dominion hosts Norfolk State and Marshall visits Ohio.
