Notes

With back-to-back rain outs, the Owls have not seen a field for competition since March 26 against UAB. Florida Atlantic swept the Blazers in a three-game series in Boca Raton and sit atop the Conference USA standings with Rice and Southern Miss with a 5-1 record.

C.J. Chatham is leading the team with a .374 average, and has compiled 34 hits and seven doubles. He has also notched 17 RBIs on the year. Esteban Puerta tops the Owls with 24 RBIs and three home runs, and isn't far behind at .349 at the plate so far this season.

On the mound, Senior RHP Robbie Coursel is touting 11 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Old Dominion had a tough series last weekend at Rice, having a seven-game winning streak snapped and dropping all three games. Solace came soon thereafter though, as the team rebounded with a thrilling victory over No. 20 Virginia, marking the programs fourth-straight win over the defending national champions.

The Monarchs are 5-3 against top 50 RPI teams on the year, and have amassed a league best 37 stolen bases in 51 with 11 different players having taken at least one. They are a patient bunch as well, and have earned 119 walks (1st C-USA).

Florida Atlantic holds a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series that started in 2014. Last season, the Owls defeated the Monarchs 3-of-4 times, including a 6-4 win in the Conference USA tournament.

Unfortunately, weather may once again be a factor for FAU. Norfolk, VA forecasts show rain up until just before Friday's opener and then again on Saturday in heavier volumes ending just before the scheduled start time. Sunday looks to be precipitation free, but turning much cooler with highs in the mid to upper 50's.

Rain stays away, and the series has begun.

Rhodes get's rocked for four runs in the first inning thanks to a pair of singles, hit by pitch, and bases clearing double.

But he settles in and the Owls drop a four spot themselves in the top of the third, led by Dick's 2 RBI single.

The Owls take a brief 5-4 lead in the top of the 5th courtesy of a Lagham RBI single, but the Monarchs respond with a pair of scores behind three more hits in the bottom of the frame (1B, 1B, 3B).

Kerr's team leading fourth homer of the year ties it up, and Dicks' sac fly gives the Owls the lead back.

So far every Monarch effort has been match, and exceeded.

Coursel is now in for Rhodes (5IP, 6R, 5ER, 0BB, 5K).

What is with this Friday Jinx for starters. Ever since we moved Rhodes to Friday he has struggled terribly.

Coursel's 11 inning scoreless streak comes to a close as the Monarchs tie it up. Eighteen hits already in this one, but Florida Atlantic uncharacteristically has three errors to boot.

No need to change the pattern, FAU adds a three spot in the top half of the 8th inning.

Dicks connects again for his 4th RBI of the game with a double and later steals third before coming home behind an ODU error by the catcher. MVP assuredly heading his way if the Owls can keep the Monarchs at bay for the final two frames.

Colyn O'Connell now on the hill.

Monarchs threatening in the bottom ninth, and have the bags loaded with one out against Owl closer Cameron Ragsdale.
