Notes

The Owls picked up a valuable road win on Tuesday, defeating UCF 5-0 in 11 innings. In what was only their first extra frame affair, FAU notched their sixth shutout on the season which places them second nationally to only Louisville.

Florida Atlantic posted its second straight sweep in conference play over the weekend, after taking three games at Old Dominion in which Junior 1B Esteban Puerta drove in five runs, boasting an on-base percentage of .571, while slugging .833 with a double and a home run.

FAU's four losses on the year have each come by two or fewer runs while the win margin is an average of 4.9 runs each. The team has recorded 265 hits in just 26 games this season with 18 games with at least eight hits and 11 with double-digit hits.

The 49ers dropped all three games against Southern Miss over the weekend, but rebounded with a 7-1 win against Winthrop a before a 7-3 loss to #14 N.C. State.

Charlotte is a fan of small ball, and leads Conference USA with 29 sacrifice bunts. But they may have a hard time executing that type of strategy if chosen as the Owls have only allowed seven all year - which is by far the fewest in the league.

On the hill 49ers pitchers have hit a C-USA most 45 batters, to just 12 for Florida Atalntic's staff. The Owls also own a team batting average of .300 to that of .287 for Charlotte.

Weather should be a non-factor this weekend for the squads, with temperatures in the upper 70's to low 80's for game times and no chance of precipitation.

Great  mention about FAU in a D-1 baseball story called Mid-season report. Says FAU is the best baseball story of 2016.

Another tough start for Brandon Rhodes. After scoring a pair of runs in the 1st off three hits, Charlotte goes yard in the third with the same.

He surrenders another in the top of the fifth and the Owls are down 6-1; with their lone run coming off a 49er throwing error.

Good news though, if we get swept according to the RPI analysis we read this week it will help us with our RPI.

I'm with you Delta. I'm a big Rhodes fan but McKay has hit his groove again and Brandon has struggled in the early innings lately. Not a demotion. Just a tweek in the rotation. Charlotte is a team that we needed to sweep. Very good odds of us sweeping. But they came out swinging and we had to play catch up again. I'm writing this before the game is over, so who knows. But our Friday games have been dig a hole and then try and climb out. Would not be surprised to see John move the rotation a bit.
