Maybe someone should contact student government and ask them why so many students leave at half-time. I did notice one thing though. From where we were sitting they were limiting the number of students who could go into that section where the students are now. I am thinking its because there are other people around the student section now, or such, I dont know. Maybe that is a question we can get answered as well. I think with Ocie Rose wasnt he battling a bug or minor injury during the week?Posted On: Sep 4th 2016, 2:23 PM #358347
Was busy before the game but I walked from 20th Street to the stadium around kickoff. On the way I passed several groups of students who clearly had been tailgating. One group admitted they were just there for the tailgate and were going back to continue the party at their apartments. Another group said they didn't have tickets, which momentarily excited me because I thought maybe the student allotment was "sold out", but unfortunately they just didn't log on to get them.
And that's it, really. The tailgates have a great reputation and some students are coming just for that. To go in and watch the game, you have to like football. To tailgate, you just have to like hanging out. Trying to force crowds to do something, like forcing the entire Rat's Mouth to come in for the game, or in general trying to get everyone in their seats before kickoff is just not realistic or we'd be doing it. This is one of those places where we have to accept where we are at in our development.
To put a positive spin on this, I did see a few people tweet that they had gone from the tailgate into the game for the first time and that was a nice change. Now we have to ensure that they have a good product to watch to keep them interested and coming back as alumni.

Same. Heard the announcements.
I can't think of a single ad I looked at on the video board. I barely looked up for some of the entertainment pieces.
So no, anecdotally, I wouldn't consider that a good investment. But maybe other people saw it.

Because if that's the case our D should look better next week vs Miami since we're not going to throw the young guys to the wolves, as it were.

My areas of concern: we kept getting burnt by the same play over and over again. That bubble screen/outlet passes. Southern Illinois looked good on 3rd downs (in the first half). A lot of big plays happened after missed tackles. That big play that we gave up at the end of the 2nd quarter was very typical of "us". But at least it happened in the 2nd and not 4th quarter.
Defensively I think we did a good job even tho we gave up over 500 yards to a FCS team. Trey and Nagel 'End combo was impressive. I think the run was well protected. True freshman Rashad Smith had a couple of good plays. Was that Shelton Lewis who gave up that TD at the end?!
Offensively, Buddy was terrific. I wonder why we went heavy on Kerryth White and Jay Warren only had 1 carry. KW wasn't so productive, but then again it's his first collegiate game. I was hoping for multiple Driskel-Pico connections downfield, but didn't even get a single one.
What happened to Nate Terry?
Marc, I did hear It's Owl Time! mentioned.
