The Owls (7-6-2, 3-2-1 Conference USA) and 49ers (7-5-1, 3-1-1) spent much of the match in between the goalboxes, especially in the first half when there were only five combined shots taken.
The teams attempted to ramp things up after the break, each putting seven shots up. Charlotte added three more in the two overtimes, while FAU got only one shot in the extra minutes, that coming in the second OT courtesy of Asta Arnadottir.

Freshman Elisha Holmes was in the right place at the right time for what would prove to be the game-winner. A shot by teammate Mary O’Hara pinged off of a WKU defender and the left post, but right to Holmes in the middle of the box. Her missile only 4:29 into the match found the back of the net for the early lead.
The Owls didn’t allow the first WKU (10-5-0, 5-2-0) shot attempt until there was 4:19 to go in the first half, and only gave up five total attempts in the match. Of those, just one was on goal, easily saved by Drinkwater in the 69th minute.
The Owls’ will next host Marshall on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

For the second straight match, an early goal by the Owls (9-6-2, 5-2-1 Conference USA) gave the home team momentum to start. On Sunday, freshman Mary O’Hara found fellow first-year Velta, who had an open look in the box and made it count, beating the Marshall (4-7-4, 2-4-2) goalkeeper left for the opening score.
It was nearly another freshman, Libby Wissman, that put the Owls up two, and not only that, but she almost did it twice. In the 55th minute, her back-footed attempt hit the crossbar and pinged away, and just 1:53 later, she had the team’s next shot, but it deflected off the post. Luckily for FAU, Velta was there this time, and she immediately rebounded it into the goal for her second goal of the game. Marshall halved the deficit in the 77th minute, but the Owls prevailed at the final horn.

The Owls (10-6-2, 6-2-1 Conference USA) went on the attack early and it paid off with two scores. In the 21st, off of a corner kick, Libby Wissman controlled a loose ball in the box and found room to be able to convert the opening goal. Then, nine minutes later, Sophie Sanchez passed it ahead to Pernille Velta, whose missile beat the keeper left and extended the FAU lead.

The FAU women’s soccer team clinched a spot in the postseason as they claimed three big points with Sunday afternoon’s 2-0 road win over UTEP.
I know we don't talk about the soccer team here pretty much, well, ever, but they are an FAU team and they definitely should get credit for their hard work here.
Congrats girls! Go Owls!

Rice (11-4-1, 8-2-0) got the golden goal as a loose ball on the left edge of the goal was passed from Nia Stallings to Annie Walker, and the sophomore fired it in from near the top of the box to give the visitors the victory.
Despite the loss, FAU (10-7-2, 6-3-1) will head into next week's C-USA Championship as either the No. 4 or No. 5 seed, depending on LA Tech's final result on Sunday at North Texas.
