FAU Men's Basketball Coach Michael Curry has signed two players to National Letters of Intent as part of the Owls’ 2017 class.

“We have worked extremely hard to make sure our class is academically sound and athletically skilled,” said Curry. “Our newest recruits epitomize such talents and will be instrumental in keeping FAU men’s basketball at a high level. We are extremely excited to welcome Tyler and Byron.”

Tyler Byrd (video below) is a 6-5 guard who scored nearly 2,100 career points at Notre Dame Prep in Chattanooga, and is currently enrolled at Gulf Coast State College, where he has helped the Commodores to an 8-2 start to the season.

“Tyler Byrd has the total package. He has a relentless, fearless nature. He’s very comfortable taking advantage of his size and strength in the post and also has the ability to shoot the basketball with range.”

Byron Abrams is a point guard from Conyers-Heritage High School who led the Patriots to their first postseason victory in nearly 20 years as a junior.

“Byron Abrams is a high-level passer with great length and height for the point guard position. He also has a deceptive first step that enables him to get around defenders and ignite the fast break.”
