Dusky…IU has top notch players. So do we but right now we are minus a couple starting pitchers. Our starter was hit hard. The first two runs were unearned. Catchers interference/walk. Not the way to start a tough game. Saturday should be a better example of how close the two teams are because we have an experienced starter on the mound. Still very early in the season.

Thanks, just wanted to know how to keep it in perspective.

The Hoosiers touch up Labsan for an insurance run in the top of the 8th and are set up well as we head to the final frame.

Owls have left runners on the base path the last three innings.

Andrew Jones replaces Labsan to make for the fourth Florida Atlantic Hurler on the night.

Jones does his job, retiring the side in order and setting up the Owls with three outs to try and mount a comeback.

GAME ONE FINAL:

IU 8  FAU 4

The Owls outhit the Hoosiers 10-2 but two errors pay dividends for the visitors.

Tyler Frank paces the offense by going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a homer. Stephen Kerr also goes 2-for-4 with an RBI and a homer.

Alex House takes the loss behind a five inning showing that yielded four hits and five runs, four of which were earned. He walked four batters and struck out six.

Game two of the series will be tomorrow at 4:00 PM with what is likely the best pitcher Florida Atlantic has to offer right now in lefty Jake Miednik.

Hopefully they can even the series for a chance to win it on Sunday.

As someone who loves both Indiana University and FAU and has some experiences with both Universities, I have to say from a historical perspective only, the expectation would be that FAU has the better Baseball program. Now that doesn't mean crap for this year because I have no idea, just offering up from a historical perspective I would expect to win this series especially early in the year when we play northern teams.

That doesn't come into play any more . The Big Ten schools are so loaded with cash that they have facilities that we can only dream of. A lot of these kids play ball all Summer in places like the Cape Cod League etc. Even though they are northern teams, they are in full stride. IU played long ball tonight and played it very well. We need to find a way to limit there production.  Baseball isn't like football. In football there are the really good teams.A lot of good teams. Then a lot of regular teams. You rarely see a really good team get beat by an average team. That happens all the time in baseball .FAU and IU are both top 40 teams. That means either team can win on any given night. Also the key to college baseball is and always will be …Pitching. Right now we are searching for a starting rotation.

Good stuff!  I appreciate hearing from someone who knows about baseball.

If we are both top 40 teams and either team can win, then I still expect to win the series at home against Indiana and hopefully we do.  Must win tomorrow obviously (from a series perspective).

Through four innings in game two and it is a 2-2 affair.  The normally solid defensive Hoosiers have committed three errors, although only one has cost them.

Austin Langham's RBI single scored Tyler Frank in the first inning, and Frank has later homered for the Owls's second run in the third.

Miednik has allowed just three hits and has two strikeouts.

Pedro Pages swats the Owl's second homer of the day in the bottom 5th to give them the lead once again.

They then chase Hoosier starter Tim Herrin by loading the bases for Stephen Kerr. He cashes in on a four pitch walk for another score.

But Austin Langham lines into a double play thereafter, and IU escapes further dmamage with a long fly out from Aldrich DeJongh.
