Notes
Florida Atlantic is coming off a disappointing 7-5 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night in Fort Myers.
“We have got to make plays and better pitches down the stretch,” said Head Coach John McCormack. “They capitalized on a few miscues we had in the seventh and eighth innings. Credit to FGCU – we gave them an opening and they took it.”
The Owls continue to ride the hot bat of sophomore Tyler Frank who has a squad best 20 hits and 11 runs scored to go along with 12 RBI. Frank was 9-for-14 with two homers against Indiana this past weekend, including a 5-for-5 showing in game two.
Through just seven games the team already has 11 homers, and is on pace to shatter last season's mark of 33 which were seen over a 58 game stretch.
Junior righthander Marc Stewart will be making his 2017 debut for FAU after a 6-0 campaign last season with a 3.58 ERA. He tied for the team lead with 15 starts, and opposing batters managed just a .240 average against him.
The Hurricanes were ranked #8 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30, but have since tumbled to #21 after getting blown out at home by Rutgers 17-6 and dropping three straight to #2 Florida.
As a team, they are batting just .173 and have only two player in James Davison (.333) and Michael Amditis (.308) above .300.
Freshman Greg Veliz will be making his collegiate debut for UM. The 6-2, 205-pound righthander attended North Broward Prep where he was ranked No. 19 in the state of Florida by Perfect Game.
Miami owns a 59-14 all-time lead in the head-to-head series against Florida Atlantic and are 9-3 in games played in Boca Raton.
The Owls split last year against UM, winning in Coral Gables 4-3, while losing 5-2 at FAU Stadium.

Come on no excuses this is no different than how regionals are played.Local Owl said
We are not a team deep enough to play five games in a six day period. One game went eleven innings and one was away. Our scheduling drives me crazy. Our kids should be able to get excited about hosting UM. We'll see.Posted On: Mar 1st 2017, 3:15 PM #367408
We are throwing Stewart who would be the Friday guy if he was 100 percent healthy to start the year.
If we want to start making strides past being a nice team who beats up on bad northern teams mixed in with a couple nice wins we have to go out a crush a true freshmen pitching and not drop games to FGCU.
FAU has a real chance to host with the new WBP ball park and Miami being down this year they will be looking for a South Florida team to host. We have to stop being a play or an AB short of being an elite team.

Abraham and Frank post back-to-back singles to start with no outs.
Despite being down a run the Owls have the hit battle won at 5-2.
Now is the time to strike.
Miami taps the pen.
