Miami completed a three game regular season series sweep of FAU as the Owls fell 8-2 tonight in Coral Gables.

UM narrowly outhit Florida Atlantic 6-5 overall but found favor from walks and errors early on and scored all of their runs over the first three frames.

Owl starter Sean Labsan threw 69 pitches in just two innings of action giving up six runs on four hits, four of which were earned, and issued four free bases.

Nick Prather gave up the final runs in his only inning (third) before giving way to a quartet of FAU relievers who closed out the game in hitless fashion thereafter while combining for four strikeouts.

“We have to get off to a better start, it is difficult to play from behind", said Head Coach John McCormack. “We had chances to get out of the second and third innings, but were not able to."

Esteban Puerta (RBI) and Stephen Kerr (HR) led the Owls' offensive showing and Austin Langham was the most productive hitter going 2-of-3 at the plate.

FAU (24-11-1, 11-4) continues a four game road swing next heading to UTSA for a C-USA series beginning Friday night.

"It wasn't a great game for us, but we have to put it behind us, we are off to San Antonio for a conference weekend", McCormack said.

The Owls are currently in sole possession of 2nd place in the league standings behind Southern Miss who enjoys a one game advantage at 12-3.

Being swept by Miami (5-2, 7-5, 8-2) doesn't bode well with me. If we expect to make a statement in Conference Tournament/Regional, we should've been able to win at least 1 game vs Canes.
We got a great team and even greater coach. Let's finish the season strong!

We are two pitchers shy of being REALLY good - super regional good, IMO.

But that is a very tough thing to overcome.
