The Florida Atlantic University softball team wrapped up its tournament schedule with victories over Fairfield (3-0) and Illinois St. (2-1) and a loss to Fordham (7-0) on Tuesday in the final games of the FAU Parents’ Weekend Tournament.

“We were able to close out the game against Fairfield and Mia (Olson) was able to maintain the same control she had", said Coach Joan Joynce. "Against Fordham, they got out to an early lead and did a good job of keeping us off balance at the plate. We’ve played Illinois State three times in the last 10 days and all three games have been close. I’m just glad we were able to win both of them this weekend.”

The Owls will next begin defense of their 2016 Conference USA regular season title with a trip to WKU. The three game set starts on Saturday.

FAU Softball opened C-USA Play with a double-header sweep of Western Kentucky on Saturday winning game one 7-2 before taking game two 5-1.

The Hilltoppers started the conference slate with a 3-0 sweep over MTSU, but fell to 18-11 overall and 3-2 in C-USA action afterwards.

Tatum Buckley had another impressive outing in the circle in the opener, throwing a complete game three-hitter with a season high eight strikeouts. Amanda Wilson gave up only four hits to pick up the win in game two.

Florida Atlantic continues to press forward winning six of their last seven outings despite being without ace Kylee Hanson, who remains injured with no timetable for a return.

“It’s always good to start off conference play with two wins", said Coach Joan Joyce. "Our pitchers did a good job of keeping (WKU) in check.”

Offensively, Alex Miller went 3-4 with three RBI and scored a run in game one and Emily Lochten had three hits and two RBI and in game two.

The Owls (19-10, 2-0) will look for a series sweep of WKU on Sunday at 1:00 PM.

Coach Joan Joyce collected her 900th career win with a 4-1 victory over WKU on Sunday. The win also completed a series sweep of the Hilltoppers. FAU improved to 20-10 overall and 3-0 in Conference USA play.

“I honestly didn’t even know about it until after the game, but it’s just a testament to the players we’ve had here over the years", said Joyce of the milestone.

Tatum Buckley continued her string of excellent pitching performances, tossing a complete game three-hitter and adding six strikeouts.

Delaney Rickey and Emily Lochten both went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Lochten added an RBI.

The Owls will now return home to host Charlotte in a three-game series beginning on Saturday, March 25.

Congrats on the road sweep ladies vs. a very good WKU team!

Again please guys, what has happened to Kylee Hanson? Glad the other pitchers are stepping up but not the same dominant pitchers as Kylee. Need her vs. Power programs!

Ok. She was injured in about her 6th start this year.  She was making a play at first and landed wrong when she touched first base.  Two tendons in her foot were injured.  I don't want to elaborate because I don't know all the facts as to whether they were torn, etc.

She is a senior but there is possibility she may red shirt and come back next year while working on her masters degree.

If the doctors clear her soon, she may decide to finish it out.  Selfishly, I would like to see her come back for an entire year because she is one of the best pitchers in the country.  In the end, I hope she does what is best for her.

Wow what bad luck for both her and the team! Just hope it heals well for her and not to rush it!

Thanks for the update Mark, been trying to find out online and in game reports but found nothing.

Get well Kylee!

The Owls lost their opener to Charlotte 6-2 in eight innings on Saturday before defeating the 49ers 8-3 in game two.

Tatum Buckley went the distance in the circle for game one holding UNCC to just two runs in regulation despite surrendering 10 hits.

However Charlotte cashed in for four runs off three hits in their final trip to the plate to take the contest.

Fielding was shoddy for the squads, with three errors posted for each, but Buckley took the brunt with only two of her runs being earned.

Florida Atlantic (21-11, 4-1) struggled defensively with three errors once more in the day's second tilt but returned favor offensively by outhitting the 49ers 14-7, and put the game away early with seven of their runs coming in the first two innings (2, 5).

Emily Lochten, Alex Miller, and Rickey Delaney posted 2RBI each for the Owls, and Amanda Wilson (7IP, 7H, 3R, 5K) threw a complete game for her eighth win on the year.

FAU will look for a series win tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

Delaney Rickey and Alex Miller each went 2-for-3 on the day, Emily Lochten had a homerun, and Amanda Wilson gave up eight hits and allowed three runs for the game. Wilson is now 7-5 on the season.
