Early Signing Day official:

Senior prospective football student-athletes signing a 2018-19 National Letter of Intent (NLI) and athletics aid agreement will now be able to utilize a 72-hour early signing period beginning December 20, 2017, the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) announced today.

The new football early signing period is scheduled for December 20-22, 2017, coinciding with the first three days of the initial date of the football midyear junior college transfer NLI signing period. The football midyear junior college transfer NLI signing period remains unchanged with the period of December 20, 2017 – January 15, 2018.

One important note is that with the December 2017 football signing period, prospective student-athletes will be under the current NCAA legislation which permits official visits starting the opening day of classes of their senior year in high school. They will not be under the newly adopted Division I official visit legislation allowing football prospective student-athletes to take official visits starting April 1, 2018, during their junior year.

With the adoption of the football early signing period, it will be necessary for the NLI Policy and Review Committee to approve some changes to the NLI provisions and educational materials to accommodate for the 72-hour early signing period. This will be reviewed by the Committee at the June CCA meeting. Additionally, Division II has been in discussion to either opt in or out if Division I established a football early signing period.  Division II will make this determination in June.
