2017 Conference USA Baseball Tournament Thread



The 2017 C-USA Baseball Championship will be held at MGM Park in Biloxi, MS May 24-28 and will feature the top eight teams in regular-season league play.

The format is two double-elimination brackets with four teams each, with the winners of each bracket meeting in a single-elimination championship game.

Florida Atlantic will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament. The Owls closed out the regular season with three wins over nationally-ranked opponents in the final week and currently have an RPI of 55.

FAU won two-of-three games at first round opponent Rice earlier in the season. The two teams met last season in tournament play with Rice coming away with a 6-4 win in 10 innings.

FAU will be starting Kyle Marman once again against Rice on Wednesday for the opener. Alex House could follow soon thereafter as he did the last outing.

Marman gives up a lead-off double which results in a score, and later a homer, in the top of the first inning and Rice leads 2-0.

Puerta homers for the Owls in the bottom of the second, but Rice answers with another one of thier own in the top of the third to make it a two run game once again.

FAU trails 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth and has just two hits.

Marman completes five innings and McCormack opts to go with Nick Swan to replace him.

His final line: 5IP, 5H, 3R, 2BB, 1K.

Nick Swan goes 1.1 innings and Drew Peden is now on the hill.

Florida Atlantic gets one run closer in the bottom of the 6th behind Tyler Franks homer to left.

Rice tacks on two more off Peden (one to his credit) in the 7th and 8th innings.

FAU is down to their final six outs needing three runs to to tie it up.

Rice starter Matt Canterino finally exists after tossing 7.2 innings with 11 K's but not before FAU gets a score as Kerr homers to make the three for the good Owls.

Marc Stewart is on the mound for the 9th.

FAU puts two on in the 9th but can't bring any home. They fall to Rice 5-3 in the tournament opener and will next face the loser of the Old Dominion vs FIU game tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
