THE TANGERINE BOWL WAS ALWAYS PLAYED IN ORLANDO BUT SINCE THE GATORS WERE IN IT THAT YEAR THEY MOVED THAT GAME TO GAINESVILLE FOR BIGGER CAPACITY! THERE WERE A LOT OF MAC CHAMPIONS VS. SEC MATCH-UPS THEN AND THE MAC DID VERY WELL IN THEM!

Tangerine Bowl history

IT WAS LATER CALLED THEW CITRUS BOWL.

BILL MALLORY WHO JUST DIED WAS THE COACH OF THAT MIAMI (OH) TEAM. THEY WERE ONCE CONSIDERED THE CRADLE OF COACHES!

I've been to three games at The Swamp and used to bike around there when I lived in Gainesville.

There are certainly nice parts to it but as a spectator in general seating I was underwhelmed by the facility and always wondered why they didn't invest more into the bells and whistles (as oc40 put it).

Granted, I haven't been there in over 8 years so perhaps that has changed, though I think the main pitch is the historical reputation and there's probably a pride there that it hasn't changed too much. Some people get irritated when structures are modified every few years with the different architectural fads.

Anyway, I wouldn't call it a dump by any stretch. Lockhart was a dump.
