Owls Basketball Opens C-USA Play vs. UTSA


What: UTSA (7-6) @ Florida Atlantic (8-5)

When: Thursday, January 2nd, @ 7:00 PM Eastern

Where: Abessinio Court Roofclaim.com Arena

Series: FAU is 5-4 all time against the Roadrunners. The Owls have won two of the past three meetings.

Notables

UTSA was projected to finish second in the preseason Conference USA polls, and have won five of their last six after beginning the season 0-5.

The Roadrunners had some struggles in the non-conference portion of the season, however UTSA was competitive against Pac 10 opponent Oregon State and then followed it up with a win against Illinois State. UTSA has seemed to began their strength after a slow start.

Head Coach Steve Henson is in his third season at UTSA, he has one postseason appearance in San Antonio. Prior to his arrival at UTSA Henson was a lead assistant at the University of Oklahoma.

The Roadrunners are led by one of the top scorers in the nation, Jihhvan Jackson who is averaging 26 PPG. The junior scored 41 points in the teams with against Illinois State earlier in the season.

Notables

The Owls enter Thursday night's contest after a heartbreaking loss at USF. Despite the result, FAU is still winners of six out of their last eight games.

A bright spot for the Owls so far this season is G Mike Forrest, who has improved his three point shooting from 34% to 42%. The sophomore has certainly taken a step forward in his second second in Boca Raton.

Karlis Silins has an impressive performance in the Owls recent loss to USF. The sophomore scored 12 points in 27 minutes of action.

This matchup will mark the beginning of C-USA play for the Owls.
