Lin Dunn (coach), Michelle Edwards (player), Mimi Griffin (contributor), Griffith (player), Jasmina Perazic (player) and Charlotte West (contributor) and the 1976 USA Olympic Team are being feted for their contributions to the game. The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's Board of Directors selects a class based on various factors, which include moral character, integrity, sportsmanship, record of performance, ability, national or international recognition, and contributions to the game of women's basketball.
Griffith, who is beginning her second season as an assistant for the Leopards under head coach Dianne Nolan, was a 1993 Kodak Division II All-American at Florida Atlantic University and the 1993 WBCA Division II Player of the Year. She helped guide USA Basketball to a pair of Olympic Gold medals in 2000 and 2004 and enjoyed a 16-year professional career in the United States, Germany, Russia, Italy, South Korea, and China.
Griffith was an eight-time All-Star in an 11-year WNBA career and led the Sacramento Monarchs to a win in the 2005 WNBA Championship, where she was named Finals MVP. In her first season in the league, Griffith captured the trifecta of WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Most Valuable Player. The Chicago native was a two time All-WNBA First Team selection, three time All-WNBA Second Team selection, she was named to the WNBA All-Decade Team and the WNBA Top 15 Players of All Time.
Opened in 1999 in Knoxville, Tenn., the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame is dedicated to all levels of women's basketball and has nearly 140 members since its inception 15 years ago.
