FINAL:

New Mexico 21  UTSA 9

After opening as 20 point favorites, this one has to hurt for the Roadrunners.

The defense played relatively well, but the offense just couldn't get going.

Starting QB Tucker Carter soon found himself on the pine after a dismal start.

UTSA (1-4, 0-1) had just 43 yards in the air at the break, but led 3-0.

If OUR D does not show much improvement by the end of the year then the Roc muct go!

We lost some talent form last year but still had the top returninfg D backfield and two big DT's plus Kirk coming back. the D ends have not done too bad with the pass rush at times but our D style is what has been inci=onsistant.

Look at the big pass play vs. Wyoming after the fumble. The game was still ous to win but they lined up with 3 wr's on thier left side and NONE on the right, leaving DJ nobody to cover so he belatedly and weakly decides to rush the passer. As it turns out they hit a short crossing pass to where DJ WAS at and broke it long. If he stayed home they would have been thowing right at him for either a pass breakup or a short completion and tackled inbounds. IF you are gonna rush the passer - THEN RUSH THE PASSER WITH EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT!

If we were lined up wrong call a timeout and get it fixed with the game still on the line. And with OUR BEST and ONE OF THE NATIONS BEST cover corners with NOBODY TO COVER….something was very wrong before the ball was snapped!

Needless to say I am not impresed with our D coaching at all this year. We gave up 37 to a bad UTSA O, and 38 to our rivals FIU - we are not playing Bama or the Huskers anymore but we are not playing much better - overall yes, but allowing big plays and making our own big plays vs. OUR level - NO!

WKU better not score more than 20 we have 17 days to get ready.
20 or over would be sad.

They WILL score over 20, probably over 30, we will have to play O and outscore them like the UTSA game. It can be done!

FINAL:

Hawaii 14  Rice 28

The Rainbow Warriors have forgone the run and shoot, and that was evident today as they amassed only 117 yards passing. However the apparent counterpart strategy of a strong running game wasn't successful either to the tune of 144 yards on 45 attempts.

With a collective 13 punts between the squads, this one was close and knotted up at 14-14 through three quarters of play.

The Owls (2-3, 1-1 C-USA) found the end-zone twice in the 4th off two respectable drives, and that was the difference.

FINAL:

UAB 42 WKU 39

The Blazers (3-2, 1-1 C-USA) avenged last week's 34-20 loss to FIU by knocking off a talented offensive bunch in the Hilltoppers.

The teams combined for 1,094 yards between themselves, with the passing game being the main producer for each.

Blazer QB Cody Clements was  a ridiculous 22-of-25 for 300 yards with 2TD, and Brandon Doughty wasn't bad himself with 319 yards and a couple TD's.

But WKU (2-3, 0-2 C-USA) couldn't get stops when needed, as the Blazers held the ball just under 13 minutes longer, propelled by an extra 24 snaps with the pigskin - most of which were rushing attempts.

FINAL:

UTEP 3  Louisiana Tech 55

Too bad FAU doesn't face the Miners (2-3, 0-1 C-USA) this season, as their running game was no where to be found against the Bulldogs, while netting just 81 yards on 36 carries.

Complicating matters, Jameill Showers threw three interceptions, which was coupled with a pair of fumbles as well.

La Tech's platoon based ground approach - with seven players getting touches - produced a healthy six yard per carry average for the Bulldogs (3-3, 2-0 C-USA).

They also saw lightning strike in the passing game, realizing 26.7 yards per catch despite connecting on only 47% of their total attempts.

FIU senior DB Richard Leonard becomes the first C-USA defender in 14 years to repeat as Defensive Player of the Week after recording an interception and a 100-yard fumble return for a touchdown in a win over Florida Atlantic.

The Offensive Player of the Week honor went to Marshall junior RB Devon Johnson, who ran for 198 yards and three TDs in the Thundering Herd's road win at Old Dominion.

The Special Teams Player of the Week award was given to UAB senior KR J.J. Nelson, who took the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown in the Blazers victory at WKU. C-USA Football Players of the Week are voted on by a panel of the league's media.
