Easy access to the stadium from a major corridor like I-95 holds value as well.  The stadium is within 30 minutes of 2 major airports.  Plenty of scenery to fill time between the action.

all good selling points

Now if Boca Raton calls a townhall meeting on this, I'am going to it, because I will travel down and voice my support for this. This possiblity of the game helps sell the area, and anything to help sell the area will help. I mean except for facebook postings and the MLL website, there hasn't been a single adverstisement for the MLL Lacrosse game at the stadium. If there will be a bowl game in Boca Raton, dont you think that advertisements and calls for support from local businesses will be made. I know I would be screaming for it. After the seasonal residents leave, the area is dead.

This location is perfect. Probably not beach weather Dec-Jan but still plenty of other activities to enjoy down here. I've been in Boca for nearly a year and I get the impression that the city and community don't really do much for the university. This is tremendous opportunity for this school and Boca Raton so passing on it just seems absurd.

If you are from the northeast or Midwest…it is beach weather.  The beaches are packed in January and February with tourist.

Its not the city, or the government or businesses that dont care much for the university, its the older population that dont care for it. They hate the traffic and the nosie that comes with having a university within a few blocks to miles of their nice quiet neighborhoods. I have a feeling that these citizens will fight tooth and nail against holding a bowl game here in Boca, because they dont want to wait a extra few minutes for tables at restrurants, or drunk college fans messing up their nice clean city. I hope that the business, city council and the mayor alie their fears in order to get a bowl game in stadium.

Don't be worried about that. I really don't think the Boca community will even know about this deal until the ink has already dried.

Their #1 and #2 concerns are property values and overdevelopment, respectively… and a bowl game doesn't impact either of those.

well i love owl2doc's enthusaim. lol. the question is the ban by the NCAA on new bowls lifts in 2014, do you think the dicators that run the NCAA will allow a new bowl game to form because they denied one a few times i remember reading.

I'm certainly not an expert at that so I'll defer it to someone else. However, I believe you asked a question earlier about whether we'd need to do anything to the roads to support this new bowl game. That answer I feel more confident about. The answer is no, because in a best case scenario we'd have a sellout crowd of 30k people and we already built the roads around the stadium to handle that kind of traffic.

It's not so much the roads but the gameday management itself that might need tweaking. As sad as it is to say, we've only really had the "near capacity problem" once so far and while it went very well (praise from the City Council, no complaints from the community) there's always the potential that the next "near capacity" crowd could create a situation we didn't plan for.

But in that case we just adjust the plan.

So I think the biggest barriers to this new bowl will be: will the NCAA allow it and who will fund it?

From what I seen, the NCAA is worried about its image right now, and if they deny a new bowl ban because they dont want to allow more bowl games, then universites  and possible sponsors can say the NCAA is too dominateering and powerful. For sponsorship I would love to see Pratt and Whitney, or maybe even sikorsky sponsor the bowl game. they are two of the largest employers in the county, plus say for five years and 15 million, its worth the expenditure.

I think the Palm Beach Tourism Board (or group) would be a good fit for a sponsor.  Showing a national audience everything there is to do in Palm Beach County in the winter…with the beaches, golf, tennis, great weather, shopping, attractions…would be a great campaign to bring tourism dollars to the area IMO.
