I like being a smaller school with a better football team.

We cant survive in the athletic community without upgrading facilities and naming rights.

It is starting to get a bit annoying that the name of the stadium is still FAU Stadium.  I know these deals are complicated and take time (not to mention a pretty public swing-and-a-miss once already on this), but we're going into our 4th year here.  What's taking so long to get this place a name?  This is 4 years now of lost revenue…come on already!

It's better to take time and get it done right than to get it wrong…Joe Robbie Stadium messed it up so bad that depending on how old you are is what you call the stadium (I call it JRS cause he wrote the check and didn't go and try to rob the public to build the place).  The Marlins Stadium has no name, I would venture to say that has more appealing naming opportunity than our place.  The economy stinks for most and any company who signs on will have to answer to shareholders.

I don't know.  I'd be OK if we had to change the name a couple of times if it meant we were getting paid for it.  I don't really care what the name is so much as FAU not missing out on a fairly large and easy stream of revenue.  I realize that Marlins Park is also without a name, but I'm assuming that asking price is far higher than ours (it was only $500K per year when the Geo Group was buying it).  And I don't think blaming the economy is the answer when every other new college stadium (Houston, Baylor, North Texas, Akron, etc.) have been able to land a naming rights deal.

I get you want to take your time to get it right, but this stadium has existed for 4 years now (plus another year when it was being built).  It's been a year and a half since the Geo Group debacle.  Now we're talking about more facilities upgrades (which are sorely needed), but I find it hard to believe that anything else will get done, if we can't get something as basic as naming the stadium done first.

I think a lot of it is due to the lack of popularity in FAU Football in general.  We have 30k students, 100k alumni within driving distance and a more than a half empty stadium that only seats 30k.  If the community hasn't embraced the stadium, I am not sure why corporations would be flocking to give big bucks.  It will happen, but not hugely shocked that it is taking this long.  The other thing is the past administration was asking ridiculous amounts of money (like we were an SEC school), so we wasted a few years.

The economy is not bad. Corporate earnings are doing well. Unemployment is still high because American corporations, like Apple, use over seas labor.
I am currently living in the Midwest and I have seen numerous plants here close and move out of the country.

So my point is, corporations have money. It's just not reflected in the jobless rate.

Multiple names de-values the naming rights to the stadium.  The corporate community is much different down here than the schools you mentioned.  The economy does matter.  The previous administration was not suited to make a deal, if anything prevented deals from occurring.  Not saying the new administration can get it done but he has a lot of work to rehabilitate community ties.  I think it will be done within the next 12 months and maybe sooner with the bowl game coming.

I'm not sure how much multiple names de-values the rights…Plenty of places have had numerous names and are always able to land another (most of the time, more lucrative) deal.  I'm betting that once Sun Life is renovated next year, it will get another new name (I think Sun Life deal is up or getting close) and that deal will be worth far more than they are getting now.  All I'm saying is that if Akron can have a naming deal, there's no reason that we can't.  There is far more corporate money to draw from in South Florida than Akron.

I do agree that this administration has had to do a lot of damage control though, so that can certainly slow the process.  However, they were able to get the Bowl game done…you would think that an annual event like that would lead to a naming deal sooner than later.

I think in the case of FAU we just have to get our name out there in a positive light and on the athletic front, we have to win consistently in the big sports such football and basketball and make post season play.
