Ron Turner -next FIU HC

The no Florida ties argument needs to be put to rest…Howard had no high school ties in Florida before U of M, neither did Jimmy Johnson, nor Dennis Erickson.  They only racked up 4 national championships among them.  What you need is an ability to network.  When you meet someone they either like you or they don't.  Most people don't like A-holes.

Agreed.  The tie to Florida is the job they took…that's the only one that really matters.  That isn't the issue with the hire for FIU.  The problem is that they had a good person in the job and dropped them for Ron Turner.

FAU should be thankful for FIU AD Pete Garcia's bad moves.
Cristabol had turned that program around and has one bad season and gets canned.
Isiah Thomas had put together a decent team that was on the verge of being competitive, and he gets canned.
Not sure how things will turn out, but if I was an FIU fan, I would be very concerned about what is coming…and if I was a coaching candidate, why would I want to work for a guy like Garcia?
Like I said in another forum FIU are like the New York Jets they are more concerned about stealing headlines from that other school in there town that they make terrible decisions.

Pete Garcia's decision making regarding coaching hires is a huge asset to FAU's program.

We HAVE to remember to send him a Holiday card next year. :D

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

All I can say is that we don't know how things will turn out for them. On paper, Turner seems to be a bad hire and Garcia should have kept Mario.
Garcia is f^&*% arrogant and this is what he deserves.

Are they really bad moves?

CrystalBall:  27–47, 20–26

Zeek: 26–65 14–36

IMHO, the firings are nto bad moves…the hires are.

Should have never hired CrystalBall and should have never hired Zeek.

Now, should have never hired…….

(thinking)

What's his name again??

Oh well.

Pointing to Cristobal's record isn't fair.  He took over the worst program in the nation and won 2 straight bowl games…and he wanted to stay there.  I don't think he's a great game day coach, but he's a great recuiter.  FIU did Pelini and crew a big favor.

They were invited to two bowl games. They lost one of them.

My favorite line from the FIU blog was…"well at least he is a highly respected QB coach"….I think Strock was too!  That worked out well…for FAU!!

:D

Thanks Rick!  Second one!!

That was the beginning of the end…even other programs lost his number.

But anyway, who cares if he wanted to stay there?? 99% of the coaches who get canned say that.

;D

I am very grateful that they have fired him, and that we now likely have an even more inferior head man walking the sidelines!
