GAME THREAD: Miami vs FAU - 2/28/18

Who: #22 Miami (3-4) at FAU (6-1)

When: Wednesday, 2/28 @ 6:30 PM

Projected Starters

UM - LHP Michael Mediavilla (0-1, 3.o0 ERA)
FAU - RHP Nick Prather (0-1, 8.10 ERA)

Notes

Florida Atlantic posted its second consecutive weekend sweep, allowing six total runs in three games vs. Delaware. The series was highlighted by FAU’s Friday and Saturday night starters, Jake Miednik (C-USA Player of the Week) and Kyle Marman, each striking out 14 Blue Hen batters.

Owls pitchers fanned 42 batters and walked just six in the series. FAU's collective staff is currently ranked 4th in the NCAA in hits allowed per game (5.23) and 13th in earned run average (1.89).

The Hurricanes handed No. 1 Florida its first loss of the season, 2-0, at Mark Light Field on Sunday, but lost the series with 7-3 and 8-2 setbacks in the Friday and Saturday contests of the weekend series respectively.

Miami welcomes back redshirt freshman catcher Michael Amditis, who missed all but seven games of 2017 after suffering a broken bone in his leg - suffered at FAU in last year's game. Amditis is batting .286 - fourth-best on UM.

This will be the last game trip to FAU for UM skipper Jim Morris, who announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Miami owns a 62-14 all-time lead in the head-to-head series against Florida Atlantic and are 10-3 in games played in Boca Raton. The Owls were swept in last season's trio of meetings with the Canes 5-2, 7-5, and 8-2.

UM and FIU might have more in common than they'd like to admit…

The Owls have their best inning of the year to start off the night, and put up a four spot on the Hurricanes. They bat around, with three singles and a pair of walks to aid the scoring. Johnson, Wilson, and Miranda all pick up an RBI.

Prather struggles a bit in the second hitting a batter and eventually walks one in, but nice cushion heading to the bottom of the second.

Miami returns favor and leaves a pair on the basepath as well.

Prather equals the Canes run total in hit by pitch.

And the Owls pick up another run as Frank doubles his way on and comes in off a sacrifice fly.

Jordan Poore comes on to replace Prather (4IP, 4H, 3R, 2BB, 4K) for the 5th.

Poore gets two out, but also puts two Canes on via walk and the pitching carousel has begun.

Blake Sanderson now on the hill.

Sanderson secures the final out to end the threat.
