2night made me sick

i just got home from the bball game against Jacksonville..ALL I GOTTA SAY IS…..our athletic department is BLIND if they dont realize that tonights loss lies solely on the shoulders of SIDNEY GREEN!.. i am outraged about how poorly he is coaching this team and tonight if nothing else has…shows why our coach is a tool…we need to kick him to the curb and find a new coach. If not, it is hard to say this…but the Owls men's bball team will lose me as a fan.

and it's not going to get any better, the winnest bball program the last two years in the state of florida (and my second school) is coming to town thurs. and the slaughter will be broadcast live on sunshine.

i can't wait for the day when FAU can be as competitive in basketball as they are in football.

2night made me sick

Tonight was the first game I have seen and I must admit one of my main reasons for attending was to see the coach in action, because these postings make it appear as though he is getting "thrown under the bus". Although one game is hardly sufficient to make an evaluation, here are my observations:
  1. The team doesn't lack talent, just discipline (which points to coaching). For the life of me, I don't know why Williams didn't get more PT. Is that the norm minutes for him? Likely because he & Bell play the same position, but I would make room for him in my lineup. He's a workhorse.
  2. After a successful 1st half they came out in the 2nd appearing to try to force an offensive scheme that wasn't working. They often seemed confused as though they didn't know what they were doing or players were in unfamiliar positions. Again, being my first game, I'm not familiar with SG's pattern.
  3. At one point, after a made basket SG is waving his players to apply full court pressure as they all retreat to the other end of the court. Wasn't this part of the half time discussion?
  4. A coach has no control over turnovers, a couple of which in the end cost them the game. I go back to the "discipline" mentioned previously. The coach does, &/or should, have control over seeing that that is in place. You bench a player for lacking the discipline which you have instilled, not for missing a shot!
  5. At the end, the Owls didn't show the killer instinct and Jax did. The game generated a lot of excitement and it's unfortunate that the Owls let it slip away, given the importance to their position in the A-Sun. These are the kind of games you have to win.

The bottom line as far as SG is concerned is told in his record as a head coach, which cannot be denied. That's what decisions are based upon, not his HS, College or Pro careers or who has played for or with. Based on his record, it's a no brainer.

Owls can't keep control in loss

FAU loses yet another big lead

Those are the last two headlines on FAU over at the post.com, which in my opinion says it all. A coach proves his worth in the final few minuets of a game, drawing up plays to expose weaknesses he sees, and setting defenses he feels will work. I take no joy out of seeing FAU struggle, even against my other school. UCF is suppose to be in a transitional year waiting on their entry into CUSA, where as FAU has the pre season A-Sun player of the year (which I don?t fully understand pre-POTY), a decent point guard in the Miami transfer Watson, and a lot of size and strength down low with Williams, Webb, and Ludgood (Young's not to bad either). FAU clearly had more talent Thursday night then did UCF; that is until you look at the start of the bench. FAU had the momentum but unfortunately they were let down with the team management and play calling at the end. A few other bad coaching observations:

-no control over Watson, who needs to get the players involved more instead of 'uping' his own stats
-no set plays to get Bell good shots
-failure to take advantage of a shorthanded team in foul trouble
-went away from the press late in the game when it seemed to be working

And I don?t hate the man Sidney Green, seems nice enough through his interviews, quotes, etc. and he'd probably make a great ASSISTANT coach. I just hate Sidney Green the head coach.

might as well keep posting here for Bball posts, I have a feeling this headline will probably work for most of the games this year.
