After sweeping the Alabama, the Owls have received loads of attention during the week including taking both categories in the Sun Belt Player of the Week awards - Alex Hudak and Ryan Garton, a #15 Power Ranking, and College Baseball Insider's Team of the Week. They also picked up a #34 ranking according to Perfect Game, and are the only Belt team listed in the top 50.
Just like the team, SB Mike Albaladejo (photo above) is off to a hot start having gone 9-of-15 (.600) against the Crimson Tide while moving to second base in error free fashion with nine putouts and six assists.
The Owls will insert two lefties into the weekend's starting rotation in Bo Logan (G2) and Austin Gomber (G4). Logan Missed 2011 season after having Tommy John surgery. Gomber will be making his first appearance for Florida Atlantic.
Manhattan is the reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion and was picked by league coaches to finish third in 2012. But not by much as the top vote getter in Canisius edged them out by just two points 61-59.
They return five starters from 2011's championship team that won 34 games (20-2 MAAC) before heading to the NCAA Tournament.
C Ramon Ortega, SS Nick Camastro, and RHP John Soldinger (2011 MAAC POY) were each selected to the 2012 All-MAAC Preseason Team.
Former Owls' Head Coach Kevin Cooney will be honored prior to game one on Saturday as a member of the 2011 FAU Athletic of Fame class and will throw out the game's first pitch.
Current Head Coach John McCormack will also be recognized for recording his 100th career coaching victory (Feb 17th) prior to the contest.

FINAL:
MC 9 FAU 8
The Owls fell behind early in the first inning when Manhattan scored four runs off FAU starter Bo Logan. The margin would grow to 6-0 going into the bottom half of the fifth.
FAU's offense finally got going behind a Hudak single, and a bases loaded walk for their first runs during their at bat, before adding another in the seventh from a sac fly by Mark Nelson.
The Jaspers pushed the score to 7-3 in the top of the eighth before Florida Atlantic exploded for five runs off five hits, including a two run homer to center by Kyle Newton. They looked to be in control with an 8-7 lead.
However, they could not hold the Jaspers, who pushed two in for the game's final scores and a 9-8 victory.
Unlike game one, there were 32 hits for the contest.
Michael Sylvestri took the loss for the Owls, giving up 2 runs off three hits in just one inning of work.

FINAL:
MC 3 FAU 12
The Owls had another big inning in game three, but made the most of it this time pulling ahead 2-1 in the series which wraps up tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
With the game tied 3-3, Manhattan (1-2) surrendered up four walks, issued a hit-by-pitch, tallied one passed ball, and threw a wild pitch in the bottom of the 6th inning. The result was seven Owls making their way across home plate off just three singles, and the team never looking back from there.
Florida Atlantic (5-1) added two more runs in the bottom 8th for the game's final tally.
Alex Hudak, Nathan Pittman, and Kyle Newton each homered in the affair, with Pittman leading the Owls in RBI's (3) on the evening.
RHP Kevin Alexander picked up his first win on the year, going one out shy of three innings, while giving up three hits and striking out four Manhattan batters.

FINAL:
MC 3 FAU 7
Florida Atlantic took game four of the weekend series against Manhattan 7-3 on Sunday afternoon.
R.J. Alvarez was brilliant at times, moving to 2-1 on the year after pitching 2 and 2/3 innings while giving up just two hits and striking out four.
The Jaspers (1-3) scored the games first runs, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd courtesy of two Austin Gomber walks and a double from SS Nick Camastro.
Alex Hudak’s bomb to right field, his 4th on the year, pulled FAU to within one in the bottom half of the inning.
Matters remained relatively quiet until the seventh inning when Florida Atlantic (6-1) assumed control 3-2 thanks to a Mike Albaladejo sac fly, and a RBI single by Corey Keller.
Kyle Newton would blast another solo shot for the Owls in the 8th, also to right field which the wind was favoring. After a subsequent RBI single by Albaladejo, Nathan Pittman’s double to left field capped a four run spree that had the home team on top 7-2 and just three outs away from victory.
Manhattan wouldn’t go quietly in their final at bat though, loading the bases off FAU closer Michael Sylvestri and putting a brief scare into the atmosphere by bringing the tying run to the plate.
The Owls out-hit the Jaspers 12-7 for the afternoon, and were led by Albaladejo’s 3-of-3, 2 RBI performance.
FAU will next travel to Miami this Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. tilt against the nationally ranked Hurricanes.

Owls get 30 votes in the latest Top 25 Poll…if they knock off #8 Miami on Wednesday, that should increase significantly.
