Baseball: UCF Blasts FAU 14-3

Owls use seven pitchers in lopsided affair

Florida Atlantic allowed a season-high 18 hits, and used seven pitchers, in a 14-3 loss to UCF on Tuesday night.

The Owls (29-16) struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Andy Mee connected on an RBI single to center that scored Raymond Church and gave FAU a 1-0 lead.

Nick Delguidice followed with a sacrifice fly two batters later that plated Mee and put FAU on top 2-0.

However, the Golden Knights (28-19) scored 14 of the next 15 runs in the final six innings to take a commanding 14-3 lead.

The Owls had their chances as well, but could not take advantage of them.

"We had our opportunities early", said John McCormack. "We didn't do a very good job and walked too many guys."

UCF scored six runs in the fifth inning, which was capped off when Jonathan Griffin belted a home run to center off FAU reliever Barry Rooks.

"We gave them some good pitches and they capitalized on it", McCormack said.

Taylor Everist (2-7) picked up the loss lasting only two innings while allowing three earned runs with five walks

The Owls walked a season high eight batters.

Raymond Church went 3-of-4 for FAU.

Florida Atlantic will now hit the road for an important series against conference leader South Alabama. The first of the weekend's three game slate will begin at 7:00 p.m Friday from Stanky Field.
