Hear that sound? It's getting louder and louder. The BlueWave is building and ready to crash upon "KC Stadium" before we know it. Three weeks from this Friday to the season opener against Cinci and many like myself can't wait. Coach Mac has done another fine job of "loading up" with new arms in the bullpen, promising incoming freshmen position players, experienced juco recruits and some transfers. Hopes are high for this years "Silver Anniversary" team. Only time will tell if our expectations are met. In the meantime, I'm with Maggie wishin' on that star! ;D
Go BlueWave! Go Owls!

I know its getting closer, but it feels like its taking forever for baseball to get here. Part of the reason is we are starting our season later than in recent years. We often started the last weekend in January like FSU,FIU, and FAMU do this year, but I guess we'll just have to be a little more patient this year. With an entirely new starting rotation those extra two weeks could really be a blessing for our new pitching coach to have more time to ready the staff. Cant wait to get started! Go FAU!!!

Cooney's Diary

I continue to be amazed at the insightful, entertaining, informative and often personal accounts in Coach Cooney's diary.

I'm glad that our program has someone of his character to help mold these kids not only into great players, but also into great people. Keep it up KC.

Man, I can't wait for the season to start.

Very well put CanadianOwl - we sometime forget that these kids are still youngmen and these coaches become their parents away from home.

Not only is KC a great coach, he's a great person as well. I think we'll all agree to that one.

Forget his baseball achievements, he's just an all round great person.

I love the diary. As someone who was a college player many moons ago I'm amazed how he can make me feel like I'm reliving the whole experience. The diary rekindles many great memories. KC certainly deserves all the praise he receives here. He is just a great guy. I'm so glad about the possibilities the new stadium will bring to him and the program. Can't wait for the new season!

Cooney's Diary

Another nice post added to the diary as of yesterday.

Although the annual alumni game is an opportunity for the former players to have fun and be recognized for their accomplishments, it's also a great opportunity to be introduced to the team for the upcoming season. Here's my take on starters and batting order:

McBryde……….cf
Hutton…………2b
Mascia………….lf
Lipman…………dh
Hafer……………1b
Widlansky…….3b
Fonseca……….ss
…..?……………..rf
Martin…………..c

The word is that Albano will redshirt and have surgery on his shoulder and come back next year for his shot at the next level. A good move in my opinion. I think he would have been in rf and done some dh'ing. That opens rf as well as some other position changes in the outfield depending on when McBryde is used on the mound.

McBryde had an excellent freshman year and established himself as the leadoff man. Look for hits and steals.
Hutton's in line to set a Hit record.
Mascia is a solid RBI producer.
Lipman will share the responsibilities with DiLiberto among others.
Hafer is in position to have a breakout year. He should own the right field fence and produce RBI's.
Widlansky is another who had an outstanding frosh year and should continue to produce excellent D & O.
Fonz is solid in the field and comes through in the clutch at the plate.
Right field is open to whoever wants it. JUCO transfer, Shapland, has good numbers. I'm not sure what his redshirt was due to, but assume he's completely recovered.
Martin saw alot of PT due to Orton's injury, however, his arm is suspect. I like the arm on Silversmith.

Maybe this will help generate some discussion and get message board fans thinking about the upcoming season. How about some input on pitching rotation?

My final comment……PR/Marketing of the baseball team stinks! Hopefully they'll attempt a turn around in that arena with the stadium kick off banquet which was mentioned in the following post:

The latest scoop on the pitching rotation(subject to change of course) is the following:
#1 starter Will Mann
#2 starter Chris Salberg
#3 starter Mike Crotta
weekday starter-Jason Costello
Allen Knight,Brandon Kloess,Mickey Storey, and Mark Culp being the main setup men for the closer.
Who's the closer?-well apparently our CF McBryde is getting a hard look at the position and has been pitching great and may be the guy. So dont be shocked to see some late inning double switches and have him run in from center to pitch.
Still a ways to go before 2/11 so the coaching staff may change their minds on some of this but thats how it looks now.
