FAU Duo Sweeps SBC Baseball Weekly Honors

FAU Duo Sweeps SBC Baseball Weekly Honors

The Florida Atlantic duo of Alex Hudak and Ryan Garton have been named the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The duo helped lead the Owls to a three-game sweep over Southeastern Conference foe Alabama. It marked the first time since 1999 that the Owls have swept an SEC opponent (Kentucky).

Senior outfielder Hudak drove in five runs, including two home runs to cap off the series sweep on Sunday. He hit .500 (6-of-12) with 7 RBIs and scored five runs over the weekend and had a 1.083 slugging percentage.

Garton began his 2012 season on a high note in helping set the tone in a three-game road series sweep at Alabama. The right hander scattered three hits and struck out seven batters in six-plus innings to pick up the victory in a 5-2 triumph on Friday.

Garton allowed one earned run and issued only one walk. The New Port Richey, Fla. native allowed only one extra base hit in the win.

In addition, Owls head coach John McCormack earned his 100th career coaching victory on Friday night.

The Owls’ baseball team returns home for their first 2012 series at FAU Baseball Stadium, a four-game set against Manhattan College beginning this Friday, February 24.
